Minimal Services Configurations for Windows 10 1809 (LTSC 17763.3165)

garlin re "[Other Mod] note:" post no2. No preset was done with that configuration because the install would fail during setup. to completely barebone services it should only be done once all drivers and software are/is installed. that lot was all done on the fly and i exported the list from Services.

Thanks for adding the preset though :)
 
W10/11 services which cannot be disabled, until AFTER the first logon:
AppX Deployment Service (AppXSVC)
Client License Service (ClipSVC)
Connected Devices Platform Service
Encrypting File System (EFS)
State Repository Service

Except for CDP, they're all required for Appx provisioning.

to get that low i would have disabled/crippled everything i could at that time and i would have included system apps for certain.

Bumped for new members and w11 users where it might be of some use.
Might aswell open up thread to includes QandA's for all OS's, all eggs in one basket so to speak.

you can stop Explorer and use (w7/w8.1 boot wim) Task Manager as a program launcher, that takes usage down a good bit,
been fiddling around a bit more and managed to get Threads down to 217 instead of the previous 285 but that doesnt include all the tweaks i used before and does include some new ones i didnt use previously. Threads under 200 should be possible but to be honest there wont be much more to come as i am about as nearly as low as you can go anyway.
 
You know, it's called Windows.

UAC and UWP apps will stop working, mouse doesn't move around, and you'll get random black screens covering your desktop. If you're focused on running one app more or less all day, especially in fullscreen mode where you don't need a lot of UI niceties – then OK.

Supposedly W10 is more tolerant in killing DWM.

Here's an example tool (written in Korean). Ignore the Korean language bits, and study the batch scripts. You'll notice how many desktop processes need to be whacked in order to kill DWM.

I'd say it's not worth the effort unless you're really persistent, but I doubt NTLite can provide a plug & play solution.
 
added that to a bunch of other dwm bookmarks :). tried disabling already but couldnt, need to get rid of that nagging feeling by seeing if it can be disabled or not, worth trying even just to rule it out once and for all. disabling on w7 is easy and works without a problem but w10 1809 has been a no no up to now.

I asked because some apps significantly increase the number of handles, like the Search app for example. Even when suspended it consumes resources.

"At times Windows 10 may determine that even in a suspended state, some apps are using too many resources. In this case, it may terminate some of these apps, effectively placing them into the not running state."

I don't trust Windows to manage which apps are kept running or not, Microsoft doesn't care about optimization anymore, they want more apps to be running to collect more data.

yeah, the differences in Handles is big compared to threads and processes :confused: and 10 various settings and start menu are broken to hell at that stage compared to 7 which is still very well behaved :confused: but its good to have a thrashed w7 to use as a benchmark for w10(and upwards), that why i shared it :).

one recent improvement has been reducing the handles from the previous 285 to 217 using various privacy settings which i am pleased about :) which helps making w10 a viable os even if it does need work.

looking at a cmd file project it looks like a lot of privacy settings are Group Policies so if ntlite could import policy files either from saved files or the host machine that would be a great addition :)

I honestly don't think it's worth the effort, the gain should be minimal, and nowadays everyone has a reasonable video card and RAM. It's worth more as curiosity and fun.
