slmgr

Hi,

What components must be kept for functionality of slmgr? I am attempting to rearm using the command 'slmgr -rearm', which works in an unmodified Windows install but not a modified install with NTLite. I would prefer to keep the least components required. I notice slmgr.vbs is present but not slui.exe, which I think is required. I remove all components except DWM and mouse cursors.

OS: Windows 7 with SP1 32-bit

Thanks!

Hi,

do you keep Windows Activation enabled/protected in the Components - Compatibility?
If not, try that starting fresh.

Thanks for the reply,
I do not keep the Windows Activation compatibility option enabled, I will try that soon. I however would like the least files installed, so if keeping that option installed works I will see what files it actually needs to complete the rearm process.

One side question nuhi (it is not important for the issue), I notice with newer versions of NTLite it keeps the windows search installed even after removing all components related, because of some 'breakage' I think I recall reading in the changelog? Is it possible to remove all search functionality without this problem? Please don't spend any time researching this as like I said it isn't important to my main query, only if you happen to know the answer, thanks!

I'm running 7 x64.
Where do you have seen that?
I have removed Windows Search and Shell Search
I have read somewhere that is needed for some antivirus

Hello, im bumping this thread as I notice the same search issue with Windows 7. If removing all search components (search and shell search) then shell search is kept (visible in all explorer windows in the top right corner).

1.5.0.5855 changelog states 'Components: Win7 Shell Search removal was breaking Libraries'. I assume this is related? Is it possible to force shell search removal under Windows 7 without resorting to hunting down an old version?

Thanks.

Thanks for bumping it, will check for shell search leftovers and reply back when done.

Shell search leftovers should be gone from the build 6795.
However UI boxes in Start Menu and Explorer were never removed, unless I'm misremembering.
You can get rid of those by disabling Windows Search in Features, then remove it.

If someone knows how to remove those, let me know.

Thanks.
