That's why I choose certain updates that I know are stable and I don't update until it's really necessary or if it adds something really useful.

Most of the time Microsoft just fixes security holes and then has to fix the bugs added with the fixes :p

Windows 11 22H2 forces more users to have a Microsoft account for installation

"Windows 11 22H2 apparently removes the option to set up the device with a local account even when your installation edition is Windows 11 Pro."

"In Build 22616, Windows 10 Pro installations are forcing the setup of a Microsoft account and users must have an active internet connection during the installation process."

And if Windows doesn't have the driver for the network card how do you do it?

i re-installed earlier this month, and went through domain login instead of MSA ...... and just kept email etc with msa

Personal news -- My laptop's original HDD/SSD drive kicked the bucket , which means I won't be answering questions for a few days until Amazon delivers me a new SSD. Fortunately most of my files are on external drives.

usually they are fast with deliveries

Probably yes, I didn't know about this tweak. Thanks.

I don't know anything about Windows 11 :p

This probably applies more so to computers that come with Windows 11 (comes with all drivers installed). If you install Win11 on your own then it is assumed that you are a technician and should know about these tweaks.

Imagine the case of a layman who does not know these things, installs Windows and the network card is not installed. It will get stuck in the OOBE stage.

Installing w11 might be your first ever go at installing an os, you may have bought dell(etc) machines before and may not know all the tips tricks and ins n outs. Dont just install a new os without testing it out first, spend a few weeks getting to know it first, scour the forums for hints and tips.

LOL. Blocked email bypass is hilarious.
Its always easy when you know how . Beginners will lurk in forums for a while, get to know who's who and who knows their onions and who dont so if you shoot something down give them a good tehnical reason why so they understand.

We've all been there for 1 reason or another.

Tech websites arent always helpful, forums are where its at.

I will test 22H2 when NTLite supports it and is more or less stable. I hope that being a 1 year release after the first one it will be more or less decent as it was version 1607 of Windows 10 which until today I consider the best version of Windows 10.

But for me Windows 11 doesn't have anything that Windows 10 doesn't have and I don't miss it at all.

There are rumors of an LTSC version of Windows 11 22H2 so I hope it's a good build :)

Before OOBE traps you at the user account screen, Windows must detect a working network by following this sequence:
- auto-detect NIC based on installed drivers
- use static IP or request DHCP
- use NCSI to poll dns.msftncsi.com for a test file
- apply NCSI test across all enabled NIC's (if multi-homed)

NSCI is how Windows determines there's "no network route" to Microsoft. It's not a ping test, NCSI fetches a dummy test file to simulate a HTTPS call. MSA sign-in or enrollment is done via HTTPS calls to live.com

You're only trapped if NSCI reports a working route. I haven't tested newer builds, the bypass to temporarily disable NSCI by reg key integration should still work.

Are you saying that if there is no internet connection then it is possible to create a local account? With Windows 10 if you don't have internet you are taken straight to the screen to create a local account, I don't know what exactly changed with Windows 11.
