So, it's been months and the whole can't set Firefox as default program hasn't been fixed yet?

I mean, it's pretty annoying. I've had this happen countless of times, when removing internet explorer.

Hi,

I did not ignore previous reports, just could not replicate.
Trying now, thanks.

FWIW, I removed Internet Explore (albeit by using the Windows' Feature Removal after 'Liting) and I use Palemoon as my default Windows browser. (Both Win7 and 8.1.)

LIINdd, gotta continue tomorrow (had to download SV-SE ISO first), will reply back.
Thanks.

LIINdd, attached is how it looks on my side after installing.
Tried installing a cumulative update, still there and can switch the option.
Now let's get methodical. Please guide me how to see the issue, including allowing Windows Update first and whatever comes to mind.

Make sure to actually try this very same preset, and nothing else, not even custom REGs until pin-pointed.

Yours do look different, for me the only standard apps I get after installing, is the "search app in Store" and something called "ActiveX Interface Marshaling Library" that I have no idea what it is. Do you remove just internet explorer, or do you remove everything on the preset? Because I see you got media player still, but that's supposed to be gone in the preset.. And I've said before, that this seems to happen only when you remove stuff together with the internet explorer component, because I've had experience that if I just remove internet explorer, I can have firefox as standard browser just fine.

Also, do you do live removal or not?

nuhi, Have you actually tried this, using the preset? Because Windows Media Player, is supposed to be removed. In your screenshot it's still there.

I even told u before, months ago that this problem doesn't happen if you ONLY remove Internet Explorer, for some reason. It's how ever the only thing you have to leave out in my preset, to be able to set Firefox as standard browser again.

Tried your preset in 17763.1 es-es, loading the ISO in VBox had 0000000f error, tried an older 7 iso and got loaded.

Downloading 17763.349...

If you remove the Internet explorer in ANY windows 10 from April 2018 you CANNOT use a reg key to put another browser as default. You can ONLY use the tool. Windows 10 from April 2018 ONLY use CLSID verification for it's apps and you are removing the string from the registry and that is preventing the OS from recognizing the new browser. It CANNOT be put back.....UNLESS you recreate the CLSID string code needed for recognition. Why don't you load a virtual with explorer still in it, copy that string in the registry and merge it, guess what, it doesn't work .... because CLSID association is only dependent on the CLSID availability......which is nothing because it is removed. USE THE TOOL or leave it alone.

Quote:

A CLSID is a globally unique identifier that identifies a COM class object. If your server or container allows linking to its embedded objects, you need to register a CLSID for each supported class of objects.

I'm Win 7 user but...
I'll try because....
I don't think so.

LIINdd please try saving this as a .reg and adding it to a system where you see this issue followed by a reboot.
AFTER the reboot then try to make Firefox your default browser again and let us know how it goes please? Try to avoid a shutdown/startup instead.

Code:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\http]
"URL Protocol"=""

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\https]

I can't. I have already used up all my activations, so I can't create a virtual machine and test it out. And I'm not breaking my current working setup just to remove Internet Explorer. I'll just leave it there, and accept that this problem will never be fixed. It's mind-blowing to me, that nuhi can't replicate this, since it happens to me EVERY TIME when using the preset. But I suspect he has not even used the preset in it's fullest, because he just showed a picture with Widnows Media Player in it, and in the preset that's supposed to be gone. I also said months ago, that this problem isn't related to JUST removing Internet explorer, as I tested before and could set firefox just fine on a preset with just Internet Explorer removed, but it's the only thing in my preset I have to remove for Firefox to work as intended again.

I suspect this is either a change on Windows 10, or a newer version of NTLite. Because I never had this problem on Windows 10 before, it was just after an update (NTLite or Windows, Not sure) that it started to happen.

After you have activated your license in virtual machine, turn it off and make a copy of that VM folder.

nuhi that's weird, i have loaded LIINdd's preset and differences are in autosaved preset.

Removed on my side not in preset:
Device Guard
spaceport.inf

Not removed in my side but in preset:
Windows Media Player

I know how the system works, I didn't before. I've already used them up, so I can't do that. And I've already spent hours trying to debug this problem and nuhi has told me twice now that he can't replicate it, so it's at a dead end and no point in me trying, if he still can't replicate something that happens to me every single time with the preset.

I have tested the very same preset in Offline image.

Installed guest additions, then FF, let it run after setup, closed FF and rebooted.
No tweaks, regs, $oem$, nothing.

After running a second time, FF was detected as non default browser and asked to select as default in settings, this time there was FF listed next to find an app.

Now THAT'S how it looks for me EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. I use the preset. With the exeption of Windows Media Player should also be gone. But that's not important.
