Extended guide on how to use NTLite's Updates Dowload feature

Introduction

First read the accompanying documentation here.

Since NTLite v1.7 there is the Download Updates feature, helping you to gather and maintain Windows updates with ease.

An active internet connection is needed because the update lists are maintained online by nuhi and scanned each time the tool is run so make sure that NTLite is allowed access through your firewall. The updates are downloaded directly from Microsoft servers.

You can download updates with an image loaded and enqueue them for integration or without an image loaded so you can integrate them later on.

The tool can check filehash/checksums to detect incomplete or corrupted downloads. This is recommended.

The supported Operating Systems are listed on the Features page, scroll down.

Defender updates are not included for now.

When an update is downloaded NTLite creates a sub directory in C:\Program Files\NTLite\Updates. Windows 10 updates are seperated by build numbers. NTLite uses a default location but you can change it in File - Settings - 'Update cache' on the main page toolbar.

6.1.SP1 is Windows 7 SP1
6.3.U3 is Windows 8.1 Update 3
10.0.1607 is Windows 10 1607 - 10.0.14393 Redstone 1 ‘Anniversary Update’, including LTSB 2016
10.0.1703 is Windows 10 1703 - 10.0.15063 Redstone 2 ‘Creators Update’
10.0.1709 is Windows 10 1709 - 10.0.16299 Redstone 3 ‘Fall Creators Update’
10.0.1803 is Windows 10 1803 - 10.0.17134 Redstone 4 'April 2018 Update'
10.0.1809 is Windows 10 1809 - 10.0.17763 Redstone 5 ‘October 2018 Update’, including LTSC 2018

Use

You can access the downloader in two ways, without loading an image and with an image loaded.

To download updates without loading an image.
On the main page go to Toolbar - Tools - Download Updates.

949

To download updates with an image loaded(and enqueue for integration).
On the Updates page go to Toolbar - Add - Latest online updates.
950

In both cases you get the main download window.
Select the required OS from the dropdown menu. The tool will now connect to the server to check for the latest availible updates. The tool will tell you which OS and build is loaded, handy for beginners.
951

It will now list all the availible updates.
Tick the Update queue checkbox to select everything or just tick the required updates.
Press the Download button to start downloading.

952

Once all downloads are completed press the Verify button for the tool to check the updates filehash/checksum. This will check the file/s integrity.
Once a file passes the test it will show as Verified on the State column.

953

Press the Enqueue button to add the updates to the Updates page ready for integration. This only works when an image is loaded.

You can now close the Download window to return to the main Updates page.

Note - The tool downloads 3 updates at a time, if you want to change this find your settings.xml file in C:\Program Files\NTLite,
find this line - <MaxDownloads>1</MaxDownloads> change the value as required, i have set it to 1.

Based on my recent forum question about NVMe SSDs, the following KB patches should be included when downloading the updates for Windows 7 SP1 using the NTLite -->Tools --> Download Updates
https://winaero.com/blog/how-to-install-windows-7-on-a-pci-express-nvme-ssd/
  1. Download patches using the following links:
    KB2990941
    KB3087873
BTW www.catalog.update.microsoft.com search for KB2990941 does not exist either!
Potentially not needed any more, but I'll listen if you explain this:
KB3087873 is needed to fix KB2990941:
"error after you install hotfix 2990941"
, and for KB3087873 it states:
"This Hotfix is no longer available"
https://support.microsoft.com/hotfix/kbhotfix.aspx?kbnum=3087873&kbln=en-US

nuhi I need the full build details for w10 1809 so i can update post no1, or you can fill in the missing bits if its easier, thanks :)

Windows 10 1809 - 10.0.17763 Redstone 5 'October 2018 Update' - 32bit and 64bit.
10.0.0.1809 is Windows 10 1809 - 10.0.17763 Redstone 5 'October 2018 Update'

CU Build 17763.134 (update content)
Supersedes 17763.107 and 17763.55

Regarding update list for Win 10 1809 x64...the list matches what shows up on Windows Update when I do an install without any updates integrated.

However, if I install without any updates integrated and then install those updates and reboot, kb4480056 is requested. Also, if I install with the list integrated kb4480056 is installed on the first WU run.

I have found that if you substitute kb4480056 for kb4483452 in the list that WU is satisfied and kb4483452 is never requested.

Thanks! Corrected.

And the update feature can bite your hand...

7/3/2019 07꞉08꞉01 Installing: KB4501375 - Cumulative Update
7/3/2019 07꞉08꞉57 Operation requires missing files. KB4501375 - Cumulative Update
7/3/2019 07꞉08꞉57 Operation requires missing files. KB4501375 - Cumulative Update

An update claiming that it can't install because it requires itself??? That makes no snese...

Is possible restore updates for 1709?
1709 – 10.0.16299 – Redstone 3 ‘Fall Creators Update’

Is possible restore updates for 1709?

Cannot support too old Windows, not even Microsoft does (mainstream).
Can you please explain why not use a newer build?

So I read the Documentation. It's a little bit out of date, since now there is a 4th Option under Tools: Remove Reinstalls. I don't understand what it does, and the text pop up isn't clear to me.

Anyway, why I'm primarily here is to suggest that the "Install Updates" option be grayed out whenever a non-Live image is loaded. For when I have a wim loaded and I click on "Install Updates," I get a message asking me if I want to Close the current Session. I infer from this that the Tool "Install Updates" is supposed to be a way to update a Live image.
