Clanger's 8.1 patching days are numbered
Clanger's 8.1 patching days are numbered
The end of Windows 8.1 is near, and Microsoft plans to warn customers about it
With none of our active developers using Windows 7 as their primary OS, the userbase dwindling, and Windows 7 starting to meaningfully fall behind newer versions of Windows, it's going to become more and more likely that features are accidentally broken in Windows 7. Eventually, the differences between Windows 7 and newer versions of Windows may increase to the point where we drop support for the aged OS. We don't plan on purposefully breaking support, but, its days are numbered.
but they are easily sorted. The bad thing about 8.1 is its UI and the introduction of windows apps and store.
seemed to be better with memory usage but the UI felt slow n spongy. a recent revisit(march) and an old tweak performs better than it did way back. But its core (performance and features) is even better than 7.
true but i have found they are stable on 7 and 8.1. latest w10/11 "only" audacity works fine on 7.Some programs have already removed support for 7 and 8.1 and many have their development focus on recent versions of windows
almost. can you strike lucky with sound cards/usb audio devices which is my thing.unfortunately even for old hardware Win10/11 is almost mandatory.
new old stock is your friend(if you didnt stock up ), if you can find it.With none of our active developers using Windows 7 as their primary OS, the userbase dwindling, and Windows 7 starting to meaningfully fall behind newer versions of Windows, it's going to become more and more likely that features are accidentally broken in Windows 7. In fact the UI is heavier in terms of resource usage but in everything else I feel the OS is more fluid in general usage like copying files, navigating between folders and files in File Explorer, opening programs, etc. With me Win7 has several choking doing the same tasks. But on very old hardware Win7 is unbeatableseemed to be better with memory usage but the UI felt slow n spongy.
If you use a limited number of programs you probably won't have any problems. And even if one doesn't work there are always alternatives that do the same thing. But for the layman in general it's complicated, when something they want to run doesn't work they won't know what to do. Dolphin emulator is an example, it stopped working several times on Win7 and the devs fixed it. It will still work at the moment, unsupported doesn't mean it doesn't work, it just means that if it breaks in the future the devs won't fix it. You can always use older versions that are compatible but at some point they got too outdated and maybe some feature you would like to have won't be there.true but i have found they are stable on 7 and 8.1. latest w10/11 "only" audacity works fine on 7.
Yes, gamers are forced to update more often than usual. But even for those if the hardware is not so new LTSC 2019 is still a good build and lighter than LTSC 2021.not being a gamer helps and audio/video file formats dont change that often
