    Windows 8.1

Not what I meant. I meant I have an old Pentium Dual Core for testing. 43 something, with corel (my main usage), office and drivers integrated. NVIDIA driver by itself is huge, and a huge pain and refuses to be installed on right click nowadays. MAXXAudio is another pain. Without drivers and...

    Windows 8.1

...and my testbed is an old repurposed Cache SSD of 32gb. Unlitened 8.1 with all updates doesn't even install there (and I have to use a mechanical HDD of 500gb with smart warnings for that test), since it asks for 48gb of free space. ...What? Did you thought I was testing on my main machine...

    Windows 8.1

But windows by itself can only be used as a glorified file manager. :P Still, more testing is required.

    Windows 8.1

Trying to keep using it, but it's hard to make a stable one that's small enough to fit on an SSD. :P

    Windows 8.1

Ok, so... something weird on my side: Played around with Miracast, in Windows 8.1 baseline image. It worked. Added NTLite to that PC, started removing stuff, managed to take a LOT without breaking it, got a satisfactory result. Then did the same removals, same drivers, tweaks and everything...

    Windows 8.1

Well, I have bluetooth, so I need that for something at least.

    Windows 8.1

yes but it's one of the lowest bricks on the pile of 'crap' that it is windows. Remove it, and the whole thing might fall on your head. Case in point, I can't access Modern Control Panel (Or however the app is called in English)

    Windows 8.1

Ok, so I found something odd: Remember that post last page I made a step by step comparisson of windows images? Well, turns out I forgot to delete the Secure boot update from my image and 'pure' updated windows wasn't installing. But that's the normal part. The weird part is that when I redid...

    Windows 8.1

...so very true. Corel Office was good, but it isn't supported anymore. I wish I had purchased a couple copies when I had the chance.

    Windows 8.1

It is not supported. And excuse me, but I have to suffer libre office compatibility issues enough in my work place. Plus the whole system-wide issues and data losses. Not touching OpenOffice and LibreOffice with a ten foot pole.

    Windows 8.1

And now I have to thank you, because I never knew that was a thing.

    Windows 8.1

You know, after seeing my Office grow nearly as large as my windows image, it got me thinking: Office support in NTLite?! That'd be awesome! Pity it isn't a thing.

    Windows 8.1

Will do that testing as soon as my brother (he is the cad user in the family), comes back from his vacation. My money is on telemetry, it also shuts downs when block a few ports of the router.

    Windows 8.1

Well, that's why we ntlite them, right? To take the gold out of the crap at least in out machines. On a different question, does anyone know what Autocad needs to run on NtLited windows? So far is the most glaring issue with anything I 'lite', aside from my last attempts at Miracast (Which to...

    Windows 8.1

Which is a shame. MS needs to learn to make what the users want, not what their half drunken, half stupid devs think is best (See windows 2000, ME, Vista, Windows 8 and the first attempts at windows 10). Windows needs less crap, and more control from the user side. Most people hardly change...

    Windows 8.1

I just had a busy last month, when the 7568 I mentioned broke on me. Dell support derped hard, and needed 6 tries to fix the issue. Of course, with so many hardware changes, I now need to reinstall windows, it is simply unusable (I can't even add/remove tiles from the start screen! How did that...

    Windows 8.1

Too damn long since I last used NTLite. Also, just missed the renew date too!. Anyways, I prefer to save time installing, so I save everything as inf files and update as needed leaving NTlite to do it's magic overnight or while I'm at work. Weekends are just when I experiment with it...

    Windows 8.1

Ok, here's the first result: One run to activate Net3.5 which I didn't take screenshots. Then downloading MS puck-dates and setting 136 packages on my OS with a 'complete' cleanup: ...now windows is 4gb fatter. Edit: Slimmed down somewhat aggressively (as much as I did on that preset...

    Windows 8.1

I see. Well, then I'm going to run a update only session, save the result the go trim the hell out of windows - both versions - to see what gives me the best result.

    Windows 8.1

another question: Do I need updates for the components I remove? And if I update first, then remove, the updates won't make a difference either way, right?
