Host Refresh won't let me keep Files, Apps and Settings

Thanks for the quick reply. Whew! Glad it wasn't me. (I've been removing Windows10Upgrade folder, trying builds without new KB's, etc. to see if I was doing something wrong.) KB4517245 is still on my system. So I might try your trick later when I gather back some energy. The capturing stuff is...

Host Refresh won't let me keep Files, Apps and Settings

I wonder if I have to enable "System Reset for Windows" under DISM options under Compatibility? (I would think that it would auto-Check itself for Host Refresh if it were needed.)

How to create a Windows 10 image like Ghost Spectre

Remote Desktop Client / Protocol has a lot of problems. I remove everything that has the work "Remote" in it.

Host Refresh won't let me keep Files, Apps and Settings

Win 10 Core 64-bit 1909 NTLite 2.0.0.7596 I just tried a Host Refresh, with 1909 iso on a 1909 Host. I got a message that I could not keep my files, apps and settings. See screenshot. Yikes! An older version of NTLite did a painless Host Refresh a few months ago, on a 1903 Host going up to...

    what does this mean?

I don't know anything about AIO, nor have I done one. So I am curious. When I've installed Win8.1, I've hacked the ei.cfg file (with the MS Documented changes) to get around the request for a key. When it comes to "Win 10 boot files," is it just a matter of coping over the Win10 ei.cfg file to...

    DISM - Error 0x800f0806 [2054], Windows 10 1803

It wouldn't allow me to select "Share this Printer" in the Sharing tab of Printer Properties. (It took me a LONG time to figure that one out.)

    DISM - Error 0x800f0806 [2054], Windows 10 1803

I have never removed the Windows Firewall. But I know that when I disabled its service in Win8.1, I could not share printers in my home network.

    DISM - Error 0x800f0806 [2054], Windows 10 1803

I think he says that because the NTLite Host Refresh is basically running setup.exe, but with its own custom GUI. Whatever, I have used NTLite's Host Refresh to update 1903 to 1909. It offered to keep my files and applications. And it did.

    Install .NET 4.8 into Windows 7 SP1

A bit off topic, but after I installed .NET 4.7.2 on Win7, I noticed that my idle processes stay low for days on end now. Whereas before installing this .NET, I used to see about 5% Task Manager after a day of the computer being up.

The number of activations has been exhausted. How to use NTLite in virtual machine?

There should be answers to this frequently asked question in the forum. Basically, NTLite looks at a machine's identifiers, one which is the MAC of the machine's NIC. So one way to use only one activation on numerous VM's is to clone all your initial VM's, telling the clone tool to keep the same...

My preset for most Windows versions

My 2 cents: Although I agree that there can be unforeseen problems when removing components from Windows, and consequently I have stated here in the forum that I think one can be "too thin" by removing too much, the main reason that I remove components is security. For example, I listen to a...

    Install .NET 4.8 into Windows 7 SP1

Hmm... I haven't been following along. The other day I was "forced" to install 4.7.2 to run QuickCPU on Win7. (Core Parking.) (That app only needs 4.6, but I figured - perhaps incorrectly considering it's MS that we're talking about - that later was better.) I noticed that it took about 2-3...

How to remove Cortana (beta) app from Windows 10 May 2020 (20H1) update?

I really don't want to get involved in this discussion, but SM03, please note that he said that he was NOT a native English speaker. On the assumption that you are (since you used the word "ain't" in a previous post), and since you acknowledged that "we express ourself [sic] by words only," I...

Win10 Pro 1903 - Live Install is destroying my active Win8 install

I was just noodling thru the forum and saw this. AFAIK, I am NOT running Secure Boot on my Dell Win 10 Box. In fact, I vaguely remember booting into Win8.1 on it, just to see if it could be done. (At Clanger's urging. Because we were having a discussion where I told her that the Dell "BIOS"...

    User Contributed Tweaks

I searched the MDL and TenForum. Couldn't find this, as a stand alone, anyway. I assume that all legitimate exe's are signed? (Although what's to stop a 'good' malware writer from forging a signature?)

Thanks. I thought that EdgeOS already did this. Am I missing something?

Win8.1 still phoning home? (Not an NTLite problem)

Joy. Although it was not a good experiment on my part, because before running his script, I 1) installed a new, professional router ahead of my Win8.1 box, and 2) I updated Comodo to the latest version. I should have taken the "closing in 5 sec" line out of the script, because as it ran, there...

NTLite doesn't recognize bad XML formatting in saved presets

Agreed. But usually it's just a simple mistake on my part. (I forget to close a string with a caret.) And since NTLite clearly knows what validates and what doesn't (since it only displays valid xml), it seems easy enough to paint anything else in the Preset folder as red. However, if you're...
