Win8.1 still phoning home? (Not an NTLite problem)

I'll make an image of my Win8.1 and try the script later tonight. Tnx.

Win8.1 still phoning home? (Not an NTLite problem)

I just upgraded my Router to an EdgeRouter X. Among its many features, it can do Traffic Analysis. Imagine my surprise when I booted Win8.1 and saw some packets going to Windows Update. I have WU disabled in Win8.1. And I have Comodo running. Apparently, despite my best efforts, Win8.1 is...

    Error loading wim

I had to fight to get AMD RAID to work. Yours in not the same error I was seeing. I was able to make the .wim, but when I tried to install WIndows, Windows couldn't see my drives. So this answer might not be pertinent to your issue. In my case, I had to 1) remove all the other disk drivers...

    separate 64 and 32-bit

So #4 is like Black Viper's preference? I'm willing to place my bets with nuhi. (I suppose, after time, ppl would report what they removed, but then found was needed in the forum. (As I have done here for running WMC.))

    separate 64 and 32-bit

It occurred to me, after listening to the SecurityNow! podcast, that another good reason for removing 32-bit Windows components is security. (IIRC, they were talking about yet another bug in the Windows subsystem, and this one was in old (32-bit) legacy code from way back.) There are a lot of...

    separate 64 and 32-bit

Others here know the answer to your question better than I. However, my understanding is that the 32-bit variants are left in Windows for legacy purposes. For example, I have WordPefect X6 installed on my Win10 64 bit. But WP X6 is a 32-bit program. There are many other 32-bit programs on my...

Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong that prevents Win 10 from installing?

Well, since he's testing it in VBox, and since (I presume) he enabled the VBox Compatibility for VBox in NTLite, it shouldn't be a driver problem. (Unless, possibly, he installed a driver that is incompatible with VBox? Never seen that scenario before.)

DCH Drivers, Graphics Control Panels and NTLite dilemma

Hmm ... someone should start a topic "What needs to be kept in Win10." Or, if NTLite doesn't have it already, a Compatibility item for "Smart Apps," where SmartScreen is kept for compatibility.

NTLite doesn't recognize bad XML formatting in saved presets

I thought the only xml's in the Preset folder were all "presets." But if not, then whatever nuhi has to parse to make Presets show red or green.

Updates displayed in red, what does it mean?

The only info that I can add is that I have simply let NTLite do its thing with updates and, so far, it's always worked. I have gotten into the habit of Trimming the update folder since updates are superseded/go obsolete so often. IIRC, when I upgraded Win10 from 1903 to 1909, there was a SS...

NTLite doesn't recognize bad XML formatting in saved presets

Yeah, I've made that mistake before too, and wondered why the Preset I just saved doesn't show up in NTLike's list. Perhaps the list could show ALL .xml's in the Preset folder, default them to red color, and then, only if they validate, turn them to black.

Windows 7 SP1 Cannot Integrate Update KB4537820 - Monthly Rollup

I think I understand, although couldn't one do all this via NTLite? Or is the advantage to create a prebaked image to save time later? (As opposed to having to reinstall .nets and stuff post 'Liting every time.) Since I don't install IE or NET's, maybe it's never occurred to me try this to...

Windows 7 SP1 Cannot Integrate Update KB4537820 - Monthly Rollup

I've never used sysprep before. I've heard Clanger talk about "capturing images." I think this next level is over my head. And, except for corner cases like the one above, I don't understand why I would want to capture an image. (As opposed to simply using NTLite.) But for completeness, I...

Is it crazy to re-integrate the same image file over and over?

Oops. My message above was meant to be a PM to Clanger. (It was 2 in the morning and I had been wrestling with Win10 (and Intel) to recognize my 1 TB HD in SATA slot 0 after installing the M.2.)

Is it crazy to re-integrate the same image file over and over?

Somewhere in our discussions, you suggested that I try Win8.1 on my new (used) Dell i3-8100. I was noodling around in the BIOS today as I installed my new M.2 drive. The BIOS says that this Dell will NOT boot Win7 or 8.1.

Is it crazy to re-integrate the same image file over and over?

It gets more interesting when you try to use a working preset in a newer version of NTLite. Sometimes nuhi's Engine changes and the Presets don't import the same. (Which perhaps could be a Feature Request: A way to alert users when an item in the preset.xml is not longer 100% compatible with a...

Should NTLite remove KB's that have been removed by MS?

Interesting. I tried to remove The 1909 Features Update KB, as well as some others. (Like an Adobe Security KB, because I have removed Flash using NTLite.) But Win10 didn't offer me the Uninstall option. Also, I could not manually install KB4537572, although whether that's because I'm running...

Should NTLite remove KB's that have been removed by MS?

So then I started reviewing my installed Updates in Win10. Among them is KB4517245, the Feature Update to Windows 10 version 1909. But since I Refreshed 1903 to 1909 using MS's 1909 iso, it appears that I don't need this KB anymore. So again I'm thinking that it might be a cool feature for...

Should NTLite remove KB's that have been removed by MS?

My Win10 1909 has been running fine since I refreshed from 1903 a few weeks ago. But, being time the sometimes obsessive type, today I checked in for Updates using NTLite's Update feature. In my Refresh, I had only included two KB's for 1909 - KB4538974, which is a Service Stack Update. And...
