Boot sector read error

Hi there, I recently paid for this application in hopes of building a custom Win8.1 image and to my HUGE disappointment I can't seem to make an iso from my source. Instead I get the following error message. Note that even if I simply extract my source installer to a director and select make iso, without ANY customization, I still get this error. PLEASE HELP.

Hi,

what is your source?
Seems like it's not a standard Windows ISO image content, I will need to download and review it in order to comment further.

Thanks.

Using the tool you linked I had the download freeze around 35%, so I went to the original site:
Chose 8.1 Pro, English, 64-bit ISO.

Downloaded, mounted it in Explorer and copy pasted the files from it to some new writeable folder on the disk.
Added that folder to the NTLite's Source page, loaded the Win8.1 Pro edition just fine.
Created an ISO for test purposes, ISO also good.

To figure out why it was different on your side, can you tell me how you extract the ISO and did you test the downloaded ISO if it is valid?
Especially since NTLite is warning about missing boot files. That is not something anyone else reports, so it must be the issue with the source.
Win8.1 is fully supported.

Thanks.

I used 7zip to extract the iso image. I just redownloaded the image using the method you described above. So it definitely is valid. Also to be clear I'm making a Win8.1 iso image on a machine that is running Windows8.1. Are you doing all of this on a Windows 10 machine?

Regardless which Windows are a host, file existence checking is the same. We are not even talking about editing the ISO, just adding it to the list and making another ISO image from existing files, if I understood you correctly.

I constantly check basic tool functionality under Win7, 8.1 and 10. This test did under 10, but the test is so basic it must be something else.
Don't like pulling this card, but there are thousands of users, something like this would be heard in a second.
So let's continue with the ideas.

- Are the extracted ISO files on a network share? This includes VM shared folders.
- Is the full path to the image files longer than ~200 characters?
- Can you try mounting the ISO in Explorer and copying files from it, maybe 7-zip is messing up?
Updated to the latest 7-zip v19?
- Using any antivirus tools that scan in the background, sandboxing?

1. What does this mean, "We are not even talking about editing the ISO, just adding it to the list and making another ISO image from existing files "? Are you not using a tool like 7zip to extract all the files from the iso image?
2. Are the extracted ISO files on a network share? This includes VM shared folders.
--no
3. Is the full path to the image files longer than ~200 characters?
--no
4. Can you try mounting the ISO in Explorer and copying files from it, maybe 7-zip is messing up?
--how do you propose I do this?
5. latest 7zip v19?
--yes
6. Using any antivirus tools that scan in the background, sandboxing?
--nope, made sure to disable it.

1. I'm mounting it in Explorer and copy-pasting. By default Windows mounts the ISO by double-clicking on it, if you overrode that, try right-click Mount.
2-6. Well, I'm out of ideas why would yours be any different, try without 7-zip and let me know.
Make sure to copy all files and folders from the ISO, and confirm the ISO in a virtual machine on its own, maybe your downloads got interrupted before the file was complete (just throwing ideas, as all the obvious ones were not it).

So I have tried MULTIPLE programs now for extracting the iso and they ALL have this error. This leads me to think that it is something with ntlite specifically.
Is there a debug log or something I can send you? Or can you perhaps give me a very specific idea of what the error means so maybe I can figure it out?

One other thoughts... When you guys make the iso do you do it for BIOS or UEFI compatibility? I do NOT want UEFI and I have my current PC's BIOS configured for non-UEFI. Could that be the issue? Are you trying to read my current BIOS or something??

Go to This link. The iso comes from MS, its just a good tool that gives you greater control. Select your required language, if you want an en-gb iso select English International. Check the SHA1 file hash, if it matches, the iso is good to use and not corrupted. Make backup copies, i usually do 5 or burn to dvd. Extracting with 7zip takes longer than mounting it and copying the files with Explorer. I usually put the files into C:\8.1dvd, replace 8.1dvd with whatever name you want to use or which os etc, i dont have problems doing it this way.

Edit- Host w8.1 Pro x64, 7zip-19.00 x64, NTLite_1.8.0.6942 x64, extract iso from my link above using Explorer to mount then copy files to C:\8.1dvd and 7zip to C:\WINDOWS-8.1\Win8.1_EnglishInternational_x64. Loaded each into ntlite, select make iso on source page, saved both to C:\, no errors.

Somehow this topic reply got lost in the pile, sorry about that.
Is this still an issue, did you figure out why the files were missing?
The log is %temp%\ntlite.log, so when you get that message, just attach that file.

ISO is created with both enabled, just like a normal ISO.
If you want to remove UEFI, go to Components - System - Boot Manager (UEFI), and uncheck - apply that.
