You use whatever OS you have to, i use w7 because i can(its partially/unofficially supported on my hardware) but w10(i havnt tested w11) can definitely be brought down to w7 level of resource usage and so should 11 with a bit of work.
You look sorted and well happy, great work :D

As a final suggestion share your "final preset" and list the software you use so others can see what works on it, especially when it comes to online activations :)

yeah mate! nuhi is a genius for putting this together.

I would restore Edge (Legacy), it's the IE11 compatibility mode. Some 3rd-partty apps expect to use HTML functions from there.
You don't need the full browser, just the libraries.

12th Generation Intel introduced in PC the concept of cores working at different clocks (Performance-cores and Efficient-cores) and Windows didn't support that before Windows 11. So on your hardware Windows 11 can run better and it's recommended to use that.

Ahhh ok, thanks AeonX that makes sense then. Had me kind of baffled for a bit. I'm going to reimage my desktop in a few weeks with an Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-9700KF CPU @ 3.60GHz, 32gb ram, so might try the same type of tests and see what comes of it. Cheers

It would be interesting :)

I personally was thinking of avoiding Intel in my next upgrade so as not to be forced to use Windows 11 or pick up a pre-12th gen CPU. But I still don't know for sure. AMD Ryzen has been a great option as well. I think I'll go for the cheapest one :p

Hangin on W10? Over to Linux?
As long as possible lol if I could I would be on Win8.1 but some things force me to use Win10. Windows with each new version gets heavier and more bloated, that's my reason. I would like to migrate to Linux completely but I think it will be complicated.

Have an old macbook pro from circa 2010 or so, wouldn't run any new mac os, tried a bunch of different linux distros. If you had to make the switch I'd highly recommend checking out Zorin Lite.(xfce version) I know they are all basically from Debian/Ubuntu etc, but this was pretty much out of the box good to go for users making the switch to Linux from Windows. I thought it was great- Runs great on old gear too!

a lot of linux os's are debian based, it has a bug then you gotta wait for the distro to update, screw that, go straight to debian but there are some that are targetted for music and content creation.

I meant "complicated" in the sense of compatibility with programs and games, many don't run on Linux or need workarounds to run. And I like to run everything natively whenever possible. But thanks anyway. Another problem was not finding a distro that I totally like. Most need to adjust to your liking. I don't have the patience to customize things anymore. I've heard about Zorin Lite, great to hear it comes well tuned out of the box. I'll try this out some day.

Another problem with Linux is that the main desktop environments are as bloated or even more so than Windows. XFCE being one of the few exceptions. But I think it's ugly :p. But I still prefer that to the OS with Gnome consuming more than 1GB of RAM. Even XFCE was ram-hungry too, the OS consuming around 500 MB of RAM when I saw it. KDE is lighter and prettier than Gnome and XFCE (yes, when I saw KDE it was consuming less RAM than XFCE) however the UI which is bloated with too many options.

How much have you got your typical windows iso ram usage down to may I ask? Think I'm seeing around 2gig on mine on idle !! I must be missing something else here!

 this is too much. I haven't tested Windows 11 yet but Windows 10 consumes a maximum of 1 GB RAM in untouched ISO in a VM with 2 GB RAM. But the more RAM you have on your machine the more RAM Windows will use, I figured that out. I always use a VM with 2 GB RAM when doing comparisons because of this. So it might be normal if you have a lot of RAM. Although for me it is bizarre to have more than 1 GB used with just the operating system.

That said, on a VM with 2 GB of RAM I don't have more than 500 MB of RAM used by Windows 10 after debloat that with NTLite. Although I remove things a lot. And I don't use Store or Defender. I need to test again but I think the average is well below that, around 400 MB of RAM with just the OS.

The minimum I got was 322 MB of RAM used if I keep Superfetch (and memory compression for that matter). Without Superfetch the RAM consumption increases slightly. But after some updates I didn't get that brand anymore.

Here an old post of mine with my results:
