Clean update backup!! (DISM)

Hi folks..!!

Sorry my bad English, I'm from Brazil..!!

In "Updates", what is difference between "None", "DISM", "Compatible" and "Complete" in "Clean update backup"..??

Which is the best option for better cleaning..??

Thanks in advance..!!

Be very careful using full resetbase with the tweak in Settings enabled, it breaks ResetPC and deployment of a captured image. Normal StartComponentCleanup without resetbase works well enough.

Which do I choose..?? What is the best choice .. ??

I can sympathize/empathize, because I too get confused about which Cleanup option is best. Especially since, if I understand it correctly, the Reset option only works for Win10? If that is correct, then why isn't it grayed out when working on Win7 or Win8.1?

And since the Host Refresh feature doesn't work with Win7 or Win8.1, why would I chose the DISM (Compatible) option?

(See how confused I am about all this?)

Anyway, I reread the Documentation page. I have a suggestion to clarify one of the options. Currently the page says:

– Custom (Complete) – uses the custom engine for cleaning the old versions, while retaining the update compatibility in almost all of the cases. Report any issues and update with Host Refresh tool if stuck.

I suggest changing the name of the Option to

- NTLite Cleanup (Complete)

The word "Custom" was confusing me, as I expected that *** I *** would have to customize something during the clean up mode. But it seems to me that what is trying to be said is that the Engine used for Cleanup is an internal NTLite "custom" Engine.

I don't use any since I have an error message during the process (I may continue but I don't know if I'll have any problem) and at least one of the three settings breaks the Reset This PC feature.

Avoid resetbase option as some reported WU have trouble updating after run in WIN 10. I still use my own DISM cleaningscript instead of NTlite DISM option, as it's still possible to uninstall older versions of ie.: Flash and .NET updates. Attached my script - don't forget to change path to the mounted image after installing updates via NTLite (Mount again and run) and Apply in NTLite. This way i don't have old KB's showing in installed updates. Can't attach cmd file here so just here to copy to a txt file and save as .cmd or .bat (don't forget to change the path to the place your mounted NTlite image is).

@Echo off
Dism /Image:"path":\NTLite\Temp\NLTmpMount01 /Cleanup-Image /StartComponentCleanup
Pause
Exit

It depends entirely on what your demands of the resulting image are, that is something only you can answer.
What is the best choice for me? I can give 2 answers and each will be right depending on which of the 2 scenarios i want to use.
If i cant give a single answer for myself how can i advise anyone else?

francis11 nuhi will probably already have Cleanup-Image /StartComponentCleanup in the routine so why add it again? Nuhi has been at this for years so there is no need to 2nd guess him. I cant see it happening but you are adding a variable into the equation, you could break something by doing that and then complain ntlite has a bug.

Now im going to throw a spanner into the works because there are 3 scenarios and 3 different answers, 2 have been used and the 3rd is in theory only but its still an option. As ive said before there is no one size fits all in this game.

Cmon zerocoolroot, what is the best choice for me?

I'm so sorry. I believe that because I am Brazilian and have bad English, I could not correctly explain what I would like .. !!

Thank you so much..!!

zerocoolroot I understood your question but it literally does depend on what you want with your image.

Ive just had a look at the current 1.8 7070 build. The best option in my opinion, if you want to use windows update later on will be DISM (Compatible).
