Compatibilities

1- I removed some elements under ‘Microsoft Office’ compatibility but Office still works. It must be because I use office only offline, not doing fancy things. If that’s the case, could you clear up what’s the minimum needed for using office offline? Maybe seperate them in the next release?

2- For ‘Windows Update’ compatibility I noticed I was still able to update Windows with downloaded MSU files after removing one or more elements from it. Too bad I didn’t take notes. Could you tell what’s the minimum needed for updating Windows with MSU packages? And make it clearer in next releases?

3- What is “Visual Studio Compatibility” for? Is it some kind of developer thing or can it break some of your layman's games/programs?

4- What is “Out of Box Experience Compatibility” for?

Can you spare a moment of your free time here?

He doesn't have free time, as developer he is always busy troubleshooting/verifying/fixing issue's reports made in the forums or by mail and also he is investigating/testing new features for NTLite.

1. There are some protections for office due to some users reported fonts or other components being needed by their office setup/run (probably language related).

2. Windows update needs some components when somebody makes some changes in optional features.

3. Visual Studio is a programming language program used by developers/programers, not related to your games. For a list of affected programs would need to test thousands of programs (games are programs too) but there is no time for it, if you have an issue with a program, report it with the preset attached and nuhi will troubleshoot it.

4. Out of box experience compatibility is needed for windows setup.

Hey Kasual, none of those answeres were clear except maybe 3. And the last answer can't be right since I was able to install Windows while many of OOBE stuff was removed.

Your questions aren't clear, please upload a preset that shows the components removed without hassle and list the exact components (locked by checking the compatibility option) that you have removed.

1. Should be clear, here is some info.

My questions are as clear as anything can be. I'm just saying compatibilities are contradictory with results. I said nothing about fonts though. I'm adding the preset. You can see some oobe, office and update compatibilities are violated, yet everything (I'm updating offline) works fine. So I'm trying to improve my understanding.

Just because the program doesn't immediately crash, doesn't mean there is nothing wrong. It could be in some feature that you personally don't use (no guarantee that it has anything to do with online). Furthermore, just because word or excel work, doesn't mean all of office (including more advanced versions of office that include more obscure programs like publisher, SharePoint, and Skype for business) will work. For example, Word Excel and Powerpoint work fine with my preset but OneNote won't even open and gives an error (I just deal with it since I don't use one note anyway).

The compatibility includes (or is meant to include) all of office. Some of it might be stuff you don't use - only way to know for sure is to test it.

Try removing windows update completely and see if MSU files still work (backup beforehand, so you can revert in case it breaks). I don't know if MSU files actually use "windows update" at all. If it doesn't work, you could try component by component to see what breaks it.

This refers solely to the developer program Visual Studio and has nothing to do with your normal programs, even programs made within Visual Studio. If you don't have Visual Studio (you would know) leave it unchecked.

4- What is “Out of Box Experience Compatibility” for?
...honestly, I have no clue what this is.
