Hello,
Is there any way to remove /disable the new 'CORTANA (BETA)' app that's present in the Windows 10 May 2020 (20H1) update ISO without disabling the 'Shell Search' functionality?

I don't use CORTANA so need to remove that, & I know that CORTANA APP is locked by the Shell Search compatibility feature, but I don't wanna disable that 'Shell Search' as that 'd disable the searching functionality in START (tried & tested)

If there is any way to remove the app without disabling the ShellSearch, suggest me that, if not, then requesting nuhi to take a look in this case & if possible do something to make this happen.

Who ever doubted? I misunderstood as it was a sea of reports between you two talking and I thought the issue was Settings - Search BOX not giving results, not that it cannot remember choices.
And yes, you two had different issues, not same as you also presented and confused me.

From next time, to avoid confusion & a better explanation of the issue, I will record the screen & share the video footage with you for better clarification & understanding. Will that be okay for you?

That said, it ended well, so thanks.
Thanks to you too for listening to us & for all of your hard work & effort & courteous reply.

Screenshot is plenty, IF I reply "cannot replicate", otherwise words + preset is all you need :)

Thanks, been losing my patience a bit from time to time, but we pulled it through, I learned my lesson to read better.

That's okay but I think a short video of the issue can explain it better & instantaneously, so if you don't have any issue, I can share from next time if anything arises.

I understand, after all, we all are humans, not robots. & yeah, am glad too that finally, we figured this out altogether.

SM03, ok, btw the Settings - Search is Cortana part, fixed in next.

Windows 10 User, ok, btw the Settings - Apps the top combo to choose where from to install the apps, is the SmartScreen feature.
If you want it functional, keep SmartScreen. Will update description.
edit: ahh it's already in, please read SmartScreen description. Will see about disabling that part of settings UI, but seems not to work unless probably Defender is kept at least. Still the dependency is now clear.

Thanks.

It looks like I didn't notice the description. So I'l have to keep both SmartScreen and Windows Defender?

So I'l have to keep both SmartScreen and Windows Defender? What about still having from time to time wrong icons after searching in Start Menu after removing Cortana with NTLite's pre-release version?
You don't have to keep either, just not be bothered by that combobox not remembering state, as it's a SmartScreen setting - if removed.

Build 7517 released, let me know guys if it's better now for this topic.
For any other issue, please open a new one.

Thanks for your valuable feedback, I'll be off until tomorrow to recharge.

I thought whatever caused my problem also caused SM03's. Do you know what caused the latter? Also, like I've told you, I still have from time to time wrong icons after searching in Start Menu after removing Cortana with NTLite's pre-release version.

Do you have problems with 7517? because it is released it is not pre-release version. please be more specific about your test's and versions u used.

I was talking about the pre-release version in 20H1 but I suppose I'll also have it in the latest stable version according to what nuhi said.

So, what setting is selected then (since it shows up blank)?

I tested with new ntlite, both search works, and i can install edge chromium even if i delete everything about edge. so everything is fine for me. thanks nuhi

Supposedly, the Start Menu issues were already fixed in the pre-release version and I told you to test it.

Anyway, is 20H2 supported now, and if so, does the Cortana app, search box, a lot of apps, Quick Access folders and Windows Security still show up after being removed/disabled and does NTLite's Remove Reinstalls still say it doesn't support 20H2 but runs anyway even though it's unable to remove the returned files after installing a CU? I had these problems in the pre-release version as well as most of these.

nuhi if you get a bit stressed go to the "in the mood" link in my signature and crank it up loud, a bit of Glenn Miller will soon cheer you up :)

When SmartScreen is removed, "Anywhere" is the default option. Even policy is set, but funnily without the component it does not disable the UI - Settings is being improved with each Windows version, they didn't even yet replace Control Panel fully.

Please stop spamming, if you have an issue, open a new topic.

why don't u re-test your problems first for nuhi?

That's what I'm doing.

So, just to be sure, I can remove Windows Defender but not SmartScreen or I'll have this issue? What about other possible settings where this blank setting issue exists, like in SM03's case? Were they caused by this or other problem?

That's what I've been doing but you don't answer.

I made a new ISO of Win10 20H1 (Baseline 19041.1. ISO+adding the latest CU, SSU, Adobe & DotNEt updates to make it 19041.331) with the new NTL v2.0.0.7517 where the Cortana is removed & finally everything is working fine (so far), from START search to Windows Search settings.

Hence, I consider this OP as SOLVED & CLOSED for this Cortana issue.

You don't have items showing up in the Start Menu with the wrong icons even if after deleting what you typed and typing it again they show up with the right ones? Not even once?

So, I tested 20H2 with the latest NTLite version and the Setting app search has results when searching for settings, Start Menu items show up with the right icon (I don't know if they still show up with the wrong icon one time or another) and Start Menu search shows winver and has results when searching for files. This time, I didn't have SM03's issue as well as the Quick Access folders and the Cortana app and Windows Security didn't show up after removing Windows Defender. Since after removing only SmartScreen I have the Settings app blank issue (as well as after removing only SmartScreen and Windows Defender) I'll see what happens if I only remove Windows Defender.

EDIT: Weird, part of the OOBE was skipped. Now the setting isn't blank but it doesn't let me choose a setting in it. It looks like I would have to keep SmartScreen and Windows Defender to not have these two issues.
