Dear all,

are you in trouble and don't know how to perform silent install of your popular application?

Feel free to post name and homepage of it here and hope someone can create topic with instructions how to do it.

I hope more users can fill this subforum, see how I posted WinRar, Chrome and other apps and keep new topics with same format for good orientation in them.

Cedrick Collomb Unlocker Assistant

-The main page is down and has been for a while, however it remains to be it's a wonderful little tool. No documentation is available as far as I could find on silent installations switch and opting out of updates/ toolbars

Veracypt

- As far as I am aware there is no way of installing this via a silent switch,

I think it both cases it might need to be done using the $OEM folder and registry keys but if there is a more elegant solutions I'd love to hear it. :)

Hello, thank you very much for this great summary!

May i ask you for help with this problem?

I want to install HP Support Assistant silently. I´ve found a good how to here: https://silentinstallhq.com/hp-support-assistant-silent-install-how-to-guide/
But i`m still struggling to execute this in Post-Setup.
The InstallHPSA.exe requires a couple of other files/folders next to it.
First i`ve tried to create a subfolder "HP Support Assistant" in sources\$OEM$\$$\Setup\Files but that didn`t work.
Then i´ve tried to put the files directly in sources\$OEM$\$$\Setup\Files which didn`t work either.

Do you have any hints for me on how to get that app installed?

Thank you very much in advance!

Don't use HP Support Assistant; self-extract the driver pack and use pnpunattend.
https://www.ntlite.com/community/in...ed-driver-installs-with-pnpunattend-exe.2674/

pnpunattend will search the driver folder, and automatically install everything.

Post-Setup commands:
Code:
spXXXXX.exe /s /e /f "C:\Drivers\spXXXXX"
reg add "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\UnattendSettings\PnPUnattend\DriverPaths\1" /v Path /t REG_SZ /d "C:\Drivers"
pnpunattend.exe AuditSystem /L

Thank you very much garlin for that hint!

But pnpunattend is not exactly what i need.

HP Support Assistant gives me the possibility to download drivers and other related software for various hardware modells.

My problem seems to be related to the way i use the post-setup functionality. i`m not very familiar with it
Would it be possible to store my installfiles somewhere in the install medium and then start the installation with an cmdlet?
Any other ideas how to solve that?

many thanks in advance!

No problem. InstallHPSA.exe isn't very smart, it needs to be run from the extracted driver folder.
Copy InstallHPSA.exe to $OEM$\$$\Setup\Files

Code:
spXXXXX.exe /s /e /f "C:\Drivers"
cmd /c "cd C:\Drivers && C:\Windows\Setup\Files\InstallHPSA.exe /S /v /qn"

FYI - Download HP driver packs (by model) and tools from:
i`ve already copied it to $OEM$\$$\Setup\Files but the InstallHPSA.exe requires some additional files and folders next to it. Here are the files/folders which are in $OEM$\$$\Setup\Files(the marked ones are the ones required for Support Assistant:
1650902793131.png

i`m not able to get it running that way.

Any Ideas?

What you're trying to do, is copying the installed HPSA folder files into $OEM$. That's wrong.

HPSA's function is to download driver packs to a live system, and install it. The same driver pack is available to download from HP's link (above).
HP doesn't expect you copy the entire folder to a new system. They want you to run the driver pack & InstallHPSA on the target machine.

Lookup the model number from the driver packs page. Download it.

You have a Fusion folder (for Jet Fusion printer?). Download the printer software EXE from HP. I don't think they have a silent install option (least most of the HP printers I've owned). Make a new folder, $OEM$\$1\Drivers and copy the EXE there. When Setup completes, it will save the printer software in C:\Drivers and you can run it manually.

garlin maybe i discribed it wrong: i do not want to use HPSA to install the drivers. I only want to install itself unattended. After that when automated setup is finished i would execute support assistant manually.
The reason for that is that my hardware i work with changes very often. So i don`t want to put much effort in preparing the right drivers for one Hardware model. I only want to get HPSA prepard to run in manually and download the correct drivers for my hardware.

Hope this clarifies things a little bit

If you just want HPSA installed (nothing else), then it's simply:
"InstallHPSA.exe /S /v /qn"

When you first wrote "other files", I assumed you meant drivers.

Sorry, but i`m still don`t getting it.

Would you please describe it for my like in 1st grade where i have to put the files and to write what in ntlite post-setup(Add File, or Add CMD etc)?

thank you very much!

This was a simple question, but unattended install of HP Support Assistant 9.14 (for W10/11) had too many problems.
I don't think it works because UWP user provisioning is broken from poor design. Jump to the end for technical details.

HPSA 8.2 (non-UWP version) works fine.

Download HP Support Assistant 8.2 (sp114036.exe), click on the Legacy version.
https://support.hp.com/de-de/help/hp-support-assistant

Installation is two steps - Extract sp114036.exe to a folder, and run Setup.exe inside the folder.

Post-Setup: Add File -> sp114036.exe
Copy the command line options to the Parameters column: /s /e /f "%SystemDrive%\HPSA"

Capture.PNGCapture2.PNG

Add Command -> cmd
Copy to the Parameters column: /c "cd /d "%SystemDrive%\HPSA" && .\Setup.exe /s /v /qn"

Capture3.PNG

Select the cmd line, and click on Move down. The line order should be correct.

I tested on a clean W11 image. If you must have version 9.14, then hand install it by running sp138693.exe, and InstallHPSA inside the extracted folder.

Win7-NTLite-2022-04-28-17-02-46.png

Where to begin?

HP devs suck, and they've made stupid design choices. Both Setup & InstallHPSA fork off a background process and immediately exit.
Any program which monitors exit status (SetupComplete) will think it's done, and move to the next app. This means you can't use a temp folder in C:\Windows\Setup, because it'll disappear before the background process finds it.

Version 9.14 is a UWP app, which is NOT available from Windows Store -- but WU and Store will update it. HP's download copy is actually several releases behind the Store's version. When you run Setup or InstallHPSA in Post-Setup, user provisioning is broken. The user gets a blank desktop icon and a broken Start Menu link. The installer requires a non-SYSTEM user context to properly provision everything.

Running under the User - Execution queue is not an option, because it requires UAC elevation.

HPSA's background install takes about 1-2 min. to complete. If you watch the desktop, a blank icon appears and several minutes later will correctly redraw. After two days, I can't find any combination of PS package install or re-registering which gets me a working copy. Anecdotal evidence from other HP users confirms my experience.
