Input directory in AppData

Hello

At each installation, I have this directory "AppData\Local\Microsoft\input" is created with all language folders, and all these folders are empty
If I delete the directory, it is recreated when I return to the exeplorer (but just the fr-fr folder) and at each reboot, all the language folders are recreated

1486

You know what it is ?
This directory is not present in ISO

Thanks

Must be hardcoded in some binary, did give it a quick look and could not find anything obvious.
Do let me know, or anyone, if it's known other than blocking NTFS permissions how to deal with this annoyance.

Thanks.

Thanks for your help

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Input is needed for Edge I believe (typing)
To see with nuhi

Haven't spent long on this but I tracked it down to the taskhostw.exe and found a way (in my limited tests so far) that seems to prevent the recreation of the folder and subfolders without also causing a hard error. It would vary on localization but here is the one I used on my system where I kept only the existing language in use (en-US).
[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Input\Locales]
...
Oh, wow, I guess there is always someone crazier ;)

Thanks, you made me see the leftovers, concluding from the referenced libraries for keyboards in those reg subkeys.
Will clean the specific subfolders with removed keyboards, may be all that is required to keep tistou77 happy.

So I tested, by removing all the registry keys loc_xxxx and just keeping the loc_040C for French (fr-fr) it's good ;)

I have the same thing with the AppData\Local\Microsoft\GameDVR directory (GameDVR removed)
An idea of the registry key ?

Thanks

Thanks so much for your help

There are some folders / files that can be removed without any problem, but are recreated with each reboot and we did not find "why", as

  • AppData\Local\Microsoft\Feeds
  • AppData\Local\Microsoft\PlayReady
  • AppData\Local\Microsoft\PenWorkspace\DiscoverCacheData.dat

AppData\Local\Microsoft\Feeds

Think its related to mobsync/sync settings, dunno if those 2 are related. Check Logon with Autoruns and Scheduled Tasks.
In IE:
Tools | Internet Options
Content tab
Settings button under Feeds
Uncheck the Automatically check feeds for updates
Source

Check getadmdx for a group policy setting.

Thank you very much for your help ;)

Ok I'll leave like this
For PlayReady, it's related to Internet Explorer

How do you track these files / directories ?

I use some redirections in the windows 7 registry and some folder precreation disabling:

Precreate Disabled
Code:
; Sample Playlists
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FolderDescriptions\{15CA69B3-30EE-49C1-ACE1-6B5EC372AFB5}]
"PreCreate"=dword:00000000

Redirected
Code:
; Videos
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FolderDescriptions\{18989B1D-99B5-455B-841C-AB7C74E4DDFC}\PropertyBag]
"PreferredFolder"="{18989B1D-99B5-455B-841C-AB7C74E4DDFC}"

Precreate disabled and redirected
Code:
; Videos Library
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FolderDescriptions\{491E922F-5643-4af4-A7EB-4E7A138D8174}]
"ParsingName"="::{59031a47-3f72-44a7-89c5-5595fe6b30ee}\\{18989B1D-99B5-455B-841C-AB7C74E4DDFC}"
; Users Files\My Videos folder
"PreCreate"=dword:00000000

Homepath: {59031a47-3f72-44a7-89c5-5595fe6b30ee}
My Videos: {18989B1D-99B5-455B-841C-AB7C74E4DDFC}

With the above ( + other ) tweaks i have a clean Windows Explorer and a clean Open/Save dialog.
