I expect the difficulty with 10/11th gen would be no igpu drivers ( needs a separate graphics card) and possibly net card - hopefully can be solved with a dongle.
if you got a realtek lan you'll be ok. grab an F chip then put the balance towards a gpu, gt710(w7 and 8/8.1 drivers availible) good enough for my needs.

nice find, i'll pin that to post no1 :)

quote from that thread
"Windows 7 is a dead-end. Whatever your reason for needing it, you'll need a sixth-generation or earlier system and you'll need to resolve those within 12 months -- you won't be able to use Windows 7 after January 2020."

wont be able to use w7 after january 2020 eh?
hmm, according to my calender today is 22nd August 2021.

quote from that thread
"there are No Windows 7 drivers for INTEL B360 chipset or 8th gen and later INTEL processors. ONLY windows 10 will work."
oh really? hahahaha

for arguments sake lets say someone started a thread on a forum that is viewable by non members too about windows 7 working on 8th and 9th gen Coffee Lake/Refresh, then if the OP on that dell thread used their goggle(sic) fu then they would find that thread within a short space of time hopefully. google "windows 7 coffee lake" and this thread comes up on page 2 of the search.

I notice gigabyte has a b460m ds3h V2. It isnt really b460, it has h470 chipset. Looks like they released it as a cheaper way of getting a board that supports 11th gen as well as 10th gen.

b460m ds3h V2 has intel lan, the b560m ds3h has realtek according to the specs.

How did you get 9000 handles on Windows 10? The minimum I can get is between 11000 and 12000.
 a combination of services tweaks and kludges all done post setup. high chance it would break setup if done to an image.
i aint got no qualms working post setup, i actually prefer it.

i havnt fully bareboned the services yet, thats w7 bareboned with networking services, those bastard services and other 10 specific services, scheduled tasks. ive cut os resources use by 3/4, there isnt much left to give

Clanger Did you turn off "Metro" by any chance? There is a reg tweak in the MDL for that and the handles decrease a lot but Start Menu, some things in taskbar, Settings app or any other UWP app will not work. I haven't tested this.

I'm curious how you did it, is there any way to share? I downloaded your files but it didn't have anything related to Windows 10, just some presets.

i'll do you a swap, if you post that tweak here i'll share my stuff with you. deal?

ive got a tweak(its in winaero tweaker actually) that reduces instances of svchost. i dont kill metro but i kill a lot of real resource hogs. (left click)start menu is dead and i made defender my bitch.

i dont fancy going further with w10 right now as w11 is due soon, will see once its out.
if w11 is an absolute pig i might update my ltsc stuff as a backup option for new hardware.

Combined :p
https://forums.mydigitallife.net/threads/guide-simple-way-to-disable-metro-infrastructure.76462/

Code:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon]
"EnableSIHostIntegration"=dword:00000000

ive got a tweak(its in winaero tweaker actually) that reduces instances of svchost.
I made it. I set a 64 GB RAM threshold to start splitting svhost instances.
Code:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

; 64 GB threshold
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control]
"SvcHostSplitThresholdInKB"=dword:04000000

SvcHostSplitThreshold, thats the one i got. will give the 1st one a go. new tweaks for nuhi maybe. thank you :)
will go through my(hunt for) files tonight and i'll mediafire em tomorrow morning for ya.

whats the 1st one called, disable metro?

I do not know :p In MDL LiteOS calls this "disable Metro infrastructure".

But the most technically correct I think would be "disable Shell Infrastructure Host integration" considering the name of the entry in the registry.

righto. can add notes inside the reg/cmd file. seems i still have my .2114 captured wim, i'll put that in a vm later this week.

ltsc 19xxx is due soon too, wonder which one will be the better option/least worst.
Linux :p with new hardware I believe that at some point the only options will be Windows 11 or Linux. For those who don't play games or use a specific professional program (Adobe apps, AutoCAD and so on) I believe that Linux is the best alternative. To browse the web and make documents, spreadsheets don't see big differences. If you use Ubuntu or Linux Mint for example it's even easier and safer to install programs than on Windows, just look in the store like you do on an Android or iOS phone.

Windows 8.1 known working on ASRock B560M-ITX/ac, i3 10105F, 8GB Ballistix 2666mhz, 250GB Crucial P2 NVME SSD, GT710.
No additional drivers needed for setup, just a clean iso.
nuhi little heads up, used Rufus 3.15p(portable, always use the protable versions) to create bootable usb key, no problems at all :)

He can install Win XP on i9 10900K and Z490 Motherboard and Im struggle to get Win 7 to work xD

He allso have a guide how to install Windows 7 on (Z390/X299 etc.)

I'm trying to get Windows 8.1 running on my laptop with an i5 1035g1 and I'm getting a BSOD after setup saying "Internal Power Error" Any way I can fix this?

do you get that error when you reinstall the OS the laptop came with? your machine is ice lake 10th gen and installing 7 and 8.1 can be a hit or miss affair on newer hardware. my bet is the manufacturer has locked your machine to w10 and you are gonna be FoL getting 8.1 on it.
