ISO Size Reduction

Hey, How do i Reduce the ISO Size, as i saw some OS roaming around on internet with 1.5gb and they aren't heavily stripped too ? like ggOS? how's that possible ??
whenever i make my iso it makes like for 4gb :( even with esd it goes to 3.5 only, i guess i'm doing something wrong.

Please first ask yourself "Why is your goal "reducing iso"?" Are u trying to reduce the footprint of windows? Or is it completely experimental?

1) You can use "Lite" preset in the components page.
2) You can set to "Custom" on updates page.
3) You can ReUseDriverCache on drivers page.
4) You can remove the languages and drivers you don't need on components page if its not removed completely by Lite preset.
5) On Apply Page, Select For ESD Compression and Remove NonEssantialEditions, like all of them.

And i can assure you, this will be the smallest size you will ever get. But as every windows shared on internet in named as "performance edition, lite, super duber perfect windows etc clown shows", this one will be the same. I mean NonUpdatable, and will most likely have lots of compatibility issues since you will be removing nearly everything, without checking for what your softwares will need...

So your goal shouldn't be slimming down windows to the bones, your goal should catch functinal windows without the things you don't need. It takes LOTS of tries untill you find your own configuration. We can share ours, but it is not meant for you, its for our usage style.

crypticus U can share urs aswell, i would love to try, + i tried lite preset, but it stripped windows store and other components that i need, i have like removed 300+ components + used Esd compression + resused driver cache, still it's 4.30 gb for some reason, didn't apply any preset too this time i manually stripped.

+ one more thing i want to know if we can change out post setup scripts location? like i don't want it in sources\OEM folder ...

What am I missing? ggOS's github has simple tweak scripts (meh) but nothing that strips Windows components.
There's 154.7 MB of content, but counting by size it's mostly Windows fonts and a collection of other people's tools.

Not to harsh, but I'm not very impressed.

To get significant size reduction you need to disable Servicing Stack compatibility. This will activate the deep removal mode. But it will not be possible to install cumulative updates on Windows after that. If you don't need to enable features in control panel you can remove Component Store (WinSxS), Windows Update and Optional Features as well.

There's no reason why you couldn't make different directories, but the normal Windows deployment process says not to copy non-Windows content in anywhere else but sources\$OEM.

my preset is not going to help your mission in choking windows.

from this line i understand you will share your ISO on internet, and you want to hide your OEM scripts. i won't be helping for sharing homebrewed isos or hiding commands.

i think anyone spends some time here can prepare better OS than anyone out there...

No i don't share my iso's on internet i just went thru a thread that's why i was curios to know if that's possible. ntlite 2015 thread i thought its' been 6 years now that might possible now

Removing Windows Apps -> Apps will reduce most of what is possible keeping Windows updatable (Servicing Stack compatibility enabled). Most other components will have a negligible reduction in size. Even drivers reduce very little as most of the removed files have a hard link kept in the WinSxS folder so Windows Update doesn't complain. Some components are exceptions like Edge Chromium and Windows Defender which reduce ISO significantly too.

If you want to use Windows Store I recommend keeping Windows Store compatibility enabled and keeping Windows Update, Optional Features and Component Store.

Google pointed me to NTDEV's Tiny10 ISO (642MB), you can watch his YouTube video.

I downloaded a copy "for research purposes". He forgot to remove NTLite.log and 4 auto-saved presets from his ISO.
Disclaimer - No advice on usability. Presenting NTDEV's presets only for study against other profiles.

TLDR:
Windows 10 Enterprise LTSC 2019 (1809) x86 - Client 10.0.17763.1637 (en-US)
removed 1157 components (to compare, "Lite" removes 457)
removed WinSxS, WU (not upgradable)
compressed as ESD
compresses the entire filesystem in Post-Setup, "System32\compact.exe /c c:\*.* /s /i /exe:lzx"

To me it's a "toy OS", built for show.

Yes, I haven't looked at the presets but I imagine things like printer, bluetooth, wifi, 4G/5G probably shouldn't work, programs don't work among other things.

The minimum size I can get is an ISO around 830 MB without losing too much generality (it can be used on laptops, etc). I don't think it's worth getting a broken OS to get less than that.

his iso task manager grab

mine, from here, see link for description. No Removals.

Excuse me if i dont get excited over his configuration.

AeonX ;).
iso size dont mean beanz :p, it only serves as an indicator of potential, potential performance gains and potential nightmares.
i only ever quoted install size with my presets and always provided screen grabs for proof.

who is wrong then, him or me? its just 2 different ways of doing things. i prefer my way :)

that video has 6730 views with 274 updoots. only 274 updoots out of 6730 views? that aint a lot.

its click bait. it doesnt remove All windows components. what has has removed leaves this
so he has bareboned ltsc 1809 and still uses 5.37gb? hardly a "thin" install. if he has used drive compression then it would be on or around 6gb which makes it look even worse. i can get 6.2gb in my sleep.

so with a 2nd round of removals and with compression he gets around 800mb. how does it run, how much functionality does it have? no much i bet.

agreed :)
