Hi
I search for tips and help to make windows use more ram and use less hardrive.
This settings I use now, do you have any tips or know more settings to make windows use the harddrive less ?

Disable defragmenting
Disable System Restore
Disable Page File Size
Disable Hibernation
Disabling Memory Dumps
Disable Reliability Monitor
Timestamp Off
Windows Event logging Off
8.3 name creation Off
User Trackin Off

* "disable superfetch and prefetch"? - Does prefetech use ram or HDD ?

* "Write Caching" - ?
(Enable write caching on this device and Turn off Windows write-cache buffer flushing on the device )

* "Disable Indexing"- ?

Most of the 7 in the $OEM$ folder do, they are mt old 7 tweaks, the rest i dont know about, i havnt used 7 in a long time now, they probably will. you are gonna have to test them out. The services and scheduled tasks bats are 8.1 specific and and some of the reggies are.

I think i got most of the performance type tweaks in there, some deal with tlemetry and logging, i got the services and tasks sorted so apart from a few missing gui tweaks i think im nearly done.

ultraform I killed my crucial BX ssd and it wasnt that old and that got me thinking about this fred and your question about prolonging hdd/ssd liffe.
You dont defrag an ssd. If you regulary cleanup your ssd c:/ drive then you are wearing out the start of the drive before the rest, the wear is going to be uneven. If you completely ignore any sort of drive cleanups, let it fill up to near capacity before deleting the junk then at least the wear will be even. Stop windows excessive logging and caching, restore pagefile etc, i wonder if an ssd would last longer?

I only paid £23 for it(new from crucial) but even so, 1 year give or take isnt a lot.

Got a few more space hoggers and loggers tweaks for ltsc, check for other os.

Download from Here. Note - these are LTSC tweaks, i will combine and upload a new LTSC tweak pack in the next few weeks.

ultraform Im testing all my logging and space hogging tweaks on w7, so far so good, there may be a few i cant silence but they may be with removals, i dont know because im working on a standard install.
Lets see what google fu finds.

Keep thumbnails and increase icon cache size, this is set to 512kb so it keeps overwriting and enlarging it will stop it overwriting and may help speed up explorer, same with thumbnails. Add those to CCleaner exclude list so they get ignored, im seeing less than 5mb written during each session with windows just idling. I have seen something called winapp3, thinks its an addon but i did see a danger warning with it, will give it a go and see what i find.

ultraform Sorry its been a while, i forgot to get back to you on this one. I did try winapp3 and i didnt get any problems despite the warning. Extra stuff over and above winapp2 did show up, another couple of hundred MB's worth if i remember correctly. AS it was just a test install i dont know how often 1809 will rewrite that data after cleaning but im guessing its gonna be that few hundred on every session. Some i didnt have a tweak for so i had to google-fu and i think i found the tweaks i needed. Trouble is every new winapp2 and 3 will prolly add something new so it would be a constant game of whack a mole to keep up and every new tool i try may show up something new :(
