My preset for most Windows versions

It's not the smallest of sizes, but nothing should crash or not work properly. In my 1909 build, it removes about 3.6GB from the iso and final install.esd is 1.6GB.
Cheers!

Is there a free to play one that wont work, so that I can test?

GTAV won't work next upcoming game red dead redemption won't work or any other rockstargames, with all those xbox and sensors removed controller hardwares won't work, xbox/microsoft games may not work... i can tell u autodesk 3dsmax will not fully function. autodesk revit menu bar will be missing. photoshop may lose some features at text part since u deleted fonts. chrome cast and smart tv cast may not work since they really depend on anything and easily broken in my tests... etc, i'm not an expert, i just had a lot of problems in the past. so i know the parts i faced

i don't like slimming windows anymore. vanilla is the best with some minor tweaks. storage is not a problem in 2019/2020 nor the ram..

Well, the important part to note is that I didn't remove individual hardware support, so you can install drivers for whatever thing you need additionally, The point is to keep boot critical drivers only and let users download what they need additionaly. I did keep xbox identity provider, which is the single thing you need for microsoft games. Store and store purchase app are also kept, so you can use anything microsoft. The whole point behind this slimming is that not all people need all features, you just keep the basics, and let people install what they need on a personal basis.

I had lots of problems with windows not booting at all, or basic functionalities missing, so decided to share my preset that shouldn't break anything important, while keeping the ammount of bloat to a minimum. You are free to add stuff you need personally. I provided a preset for people to edit as they wish. It keeps the basics, but I think it's normal for someone to add his or hers keyboard layout, for example, or snipping tool if they use it, for example. This isn't something written in stone.

"My preset for most windows versions", which windows versions? 7 8.1 and 10? all editions of each? what about Servers? Be specific please, a lot of beginners need to know specifics, OS, build number(in the case of w10).

Seasoned liters like ege914 (for example) already know what can be taken out and what needs to be kept, beginners wont know what is safe to remove. ege914 points out that your preset will break a lot of stuff and beginners wont have a clue what to keep for their needs. If you post a preset be prepared to answer many questions because if you dont answer them people wont use it.

Although there will be some similarities between os's and more so with the many windows 10 builds there are also enough differences to warrant treating each w10 build number as a different os, that is my opinion. Some will agree some will disagree, its how i prefer to work.

Well, if you already know better then me, why not post your own preset? I visited your forum page, and downloaded your 1809 preset v1, but it looks like begginers stuff to me. I may be new to ntlite, but I do have some exp with other tools and windows in general. I think it is unfair of you to assume my level of knowledge just by my forum profile age.

he already has tons of tutorials. just check the forum... internet is very small place, and there are very little places we hang out, so we know the people who "know stuff", why don't u share more with us so we can get to know u too..

That is because they are for beginners and are based on my own nLite/XP configuration i used successfully for many years.
All we had up to their creation was advanced presets, including my own 1.3gb(1.23/6?) installed windows 7(with kb3125574) preset, there wasnt a "starter" preset for beginners, i saw a need and i filled it.

I do have some exp with other tools

I have used other tools and none of them have the removals nuhi has always given us so i dont use them.

Oh, I'm no hacker nor wizard. Just a regular home user whithout a paper proving anything. It's just that I've been sitting behind computers since C64 was around, and learned a thing or two in the past 30 years.

Snap! I call myself "home user plus". I just like to put back into forums when i have learnt everything from them and i hate the hatred of "noobs" by some really knowledgable people that it makes my wee boil dry so i cater for beginners and remember what being a noob is like.
I dont count the likes i get but i like getting them cos i know that at least some people find my posts useful, i like sharing stuff.

chrome cast and smart tv cast may not work since they really depend on anything.

Minor nitpick. Miracast/WiDi and DLNA actually check some registry entries, but need very little to work (You should just avoid CCleaner or Wise's Registry Cleaning Apps afterwards). Keeping "Media Streaming", "ICS Internet Conection Sharing" and "Aplication Layer Gateway" got that working on Windows 8.1 for me. I also have a preset on LTSC that works with Miracast.

No idea on Xbox Controllers as I own a couple Razer Servals and they're serving me nicely so far, so I see no need to invest on another.

This also work with Touchscreens and Active Pen (mine is a 6th Gen Inspiron 7568), Optimus. Steam, Battle.net and Uplay are working without issues as well.

No idea on Photoshop, since I use Corel Draw/PhotoPaint and Autodesk Sketchbook.

If there's anything that doesn't work and you know how to make it work, please tell me!

you only mention few.

i think @Gorstak's presets are for slow machines with modded graphics driver that can at least run windows 10. if softwares really doesnt work on these presets then its useless if you guys dont modify it.

if your PC/Mac/laptop is fast then there is no reason to slim down windows image, right? also, if you know a lot then advice the guy which one to remove and which one should be kept in the presets.

My 2 cents: Although I agree that there can be unforeseen problems when removing components from Windows, and consequently I have stated here in the forum that I think one can be "too thin" by removing too much, the main reason that I remove components is security.

For example, I listen to a weekly podcast called SecurityNow!, and recently they covered vulnerabilities in the Windows Remote Desktop Client.

But I don't have to worry about RDC because I used NTLite to (easily) remove it!

i don't think ntlite is for "slimming" anything. its for customizing windows, even tho i have i7 + 2070 gpu, i like it without modernapps. and some thing already prepared/enabled/disabled when i fresh install windows

Hi guys,
newbie here I just wanted to ask the advanced crowd a question. When applying your provided resets it always seems once the "windows update" searches it actually replaces the key things you worked hard to remove especially adobe flash. defender, recovery, etc. Is there a setting or process Im missing?
