New Windows Media Player (Windows 11)

MSIX/Appx support added in the build 8673, let me know how it goes for those that wanted this.
Added apps will be seen under Components - Windows Apps - Apps.

This allows NVIDIA Control Panel App & winget to be pre-installed (without using Store or Post-Setup).
Will the package versions be reported in NTLite?

Thanks Nuhi

which file should I put (for new WMP, eg) ?

Use the same steps for downloads. NTLite can integrate those files, but it won't download them since adguard.net is a 3rd-party site.

Yes, versions are now listed on the Apps descriptions, forgot to mention that in the changelog at first.

Actually a good question.

Tried Microsoft.ZuneMusic_11.2202.45.0_neutral_~_8wekyb3d8bbwe.msixbundle
did not work, it reported 2019 already in, this new one too old (11 vs 2019).

Checking ntlite_dism.log
Msg:[Failed while adding package Microsoft.ZuneMusic_11.2202.45.0_neutral_~_8wekyb3d8bbwe since an equal or higher version of the package, Microsoft.ZuneMusic_2019.21012.10511.0_neutral_~_8wekyb3d8bbwe, already exists]

Then switched to the alternative download also present in the app links.
Microsoft.ZuneMusic_2019.22031.10096.0_neutral_~_8wekyb3d8bbwe.appxbundle
that one worked on Win11 at least, for the rest it may need dependency updates as well.
Will have to implement promting dependencies to the user when detected as missing.

Thanks.

I had tested by first deleting ZoneMusic, then integrating the new version, same error message

Maybe we should do the same with

Microsoft.UI.Xaml.2.7_7.2109.13004.0_x64__8wekyb3d8bbwe.appx
Microsoft.VCLibs.140.00_14.0.30704.0_x64__8wekyb3d8bbwe.appx

If the versions are different ?

rg-adguard.net does a simple dependency check, by reading the requested package's manifest.

Whenever a required library (.NET, Xaml, VCLibs) is reported, it displays the lowest minimum version (if required) and the highest version. It's not making a judgment to whether you should install the latest.

For example, take Skype (9WZDNCRFJ364).
Microsoft.NET.Native.Framework.1.6_1.6.27413.0_x64__8wekyb3d8bbwe.appx
Microsoft.NET.Native.Framework.2.2_2.2.29512.0_x64__8wekyb3d8bbwe.appx
Microsoft.NET.Native.Runtime.1.6_1.6.24903.0_x64__8wekyb3d8bbwe.Appx
Microsoft.NET.Native.Runtime.2.2_2.2.28604.0_x64__8wekyb3d8bbwe.appx

Microsoft.SkypeApp_12.1815.210.1000_neutral_~_kzf8qxf38zg5c.appxbundle
Microsoft.SkypeApp_14.56.102.0_neutral_~_kzf8qxf38zg5c.appxbundle
Microsoft.SkypeApp_15.83.408.0_neutral_~_kzf8qxf38zg5c.msixbundle
Microsoft.VCLibs.140.00_14.0.30704.0_x64__8wekyb3d8bbwe.appx

But nothing for NVIDIA Control Panel (9NF8H0H7WMLT).
NVIDIACorp.NVIDIAControlPanel_8.1.960.0_x64__56jybvy8sckqj.appx
NVIDIACorp.NVIDIAControlPanel_8.1.961.0_x64__56jybvy8sckqj.appx
NVIDIACorp.NVIDIAControlPanel_8.1.962.0_x64__56jybvy8sckqj.appx

I would install .NET 2.2 (in the example) and not worry about it. Some library packages can live side-by-side, where the major/minor versions are different. For example, both Xaml 2.2 & Xaml 2.7. That's like Windows allowing multiple .NET or VC++ runtime versions.

ZuneMusic is weird. MS chose to version the W11 replacement as 11, instead of release year like in W10. Remember most UWP apps are the same for both versions of Windows. In this case, we must remove the old version to get past DISM (major version 2019 > 11).

Install the highest version of Xaml & VCLibs the script finds. Do that first, before updating other packages in case they have version checks.

There should be no errors on full Win11, the version I listed integrated fine without any additions.
Are you maybe integrating to the lite one?
Since this is not about waiting or not, but about the latest added feature, for my peace of mind would you please list which Media Player package exactly did you try so I can test it on your French Win11?

Potentially it's your host, maybe it's missing something needed for Appx/Msix packages. If you have a full VM, try it inside to confirm.

Thanks.

It's Microsoft.ZuneMusic_11.2202.45.0_neutral___8wekyb3d8bbwe.Msixbundle

The host is a windows 10 (lightened with NTlite) when I tested the integration in Offline, I could try with Windows 11, but it is also lightened with NTLite

Please re-read my reply from earlier, the correct package is "Microsoft.ZuneMusic_2019.22031.10096.0_neutral_~_8wekyb3d8bbwe.appxbundle"

It is, it's just differently tagged depending which OS version has built-in, as in this case DISM reported above in the log that 11.2202.45.0 won't be installed because 2019.21012.10511.0 already exists.
It didn't want to install 11. something, as 2019. is already in, seemed newer to it as version is bigger.
Of course it was silly from MS to tag it 2019 when they first put it in Win10/11, but it is what it is.

To confirm, if skeptical, which is fine:
Update it automatically in the Windows Store, then load that C:\Windows with NTLite and check in Components apps, version of the app is on the right of the name, in the description column.

OkI'll test, garlin was telling us that he managed to integrate version 11 with dism, in one of these posts
It must be possible but you must probably update the other components too (but uninstall the old ones first)

If version 11 will be integrated into 22h2, I'll wait, I hardly ever use WMP :D

You seem to be right, just checked it as described above as you mention garlin's result from earlier.
It is indeed v11 (not v2019) listed in NTLite after the Store is done.

I want this replacement automated, wrote it down, basically please wait until the update.

Thanks!

W10 & 11 share most of their apps. It made sense to make WMP versions based on release year, up until they decided to replace WMP.
This was done to block W10 users. There's nothing OS-specific in ZuneMusic, they just want you to upgrade.

The story of MS. Product manager wins again over dev team.

rg-adguard.net does not perform a dependency check, all the listed packages with various versions are returned from the store request (displaycatalog.mp.microsoft.com and fe3.delivery.mp.microsoft.com)

regarding the version collision v11 / v2019
the insider preview builds 22563+ releases contain the new msixbundle which is versioned correctly (e.g. Microsoft.ZuneMusic_2022.305.941.0_neutral_~_8wekyb3d8bbwe.Msixbundle)
not sure why the Store releases contain different versioning, maybe to block it for currently installed Music app, or to restrict it for the upcoming W11 22H2
although the v11 bundle can still be installed for 22000.346 and later, if you removed the preinsalled ZuneMusic package
