Newly attached or modified devices don't get re-initialized/sorted

Edit: More info later post

So after I tweaked my Windows 7 build with NTLite I eventually saw some weird stuff going.

As soon as I disconnect a drive in diskmgmt.msc and re-initialize it (or create new volume after deleting old one) format it and mmc/diskmgmt simply hangs.

Also seen this error pop up:

"The operation failed to complete because the Disk Management console view is not up-to-date "

Basically unable to reinitialize drives after i disconnect them.

When I update from MS AHCI inbox driver to Intel RST, all my harddisk basically become 'unknown device' which is odd as well.

After some fooling around, deleting entries in device manager etc I managed to get all drives back working, but why is it behaving weird like this?

(I have 2 HDD's and one AHCI SSD all on the same Intel AHCI controller, my NVMe as main boot drive is obviously not affected.

Here's my preset.

Thanks, keep me updated if any of the Windows updates confirmed cause you issues down the line, then I'll check the preset + that update to replicate.

Ok, issue is more widespread than i realised, and not particularly related to my drives/ahci.

In example what occurs:

- Install Nvidia driver, results in monitor going from PnP to Generic Monitor under other devices. (Causes no problems tho)
- Attach USB mass storage (thumb drive i.e. wont add drive/letter by default
- attach mouse to different usb port results in no longer functioning mouse, plugging back in the same port, all fine.

Basically every device, internal or external, becoming changed seems to revert to an 'unknown device' state or something similar, rather than redetect/install drivers.

For Storage i have to reassign the unknown devices to 'disk drive' and reassign it to being a 'volume'.

For the monitor i manually have to revert it back to PnP monitor, and that's how it goes on.

Strange! Something i deleted/disabled causes Win7 to no longer 'initialize' or sort itself out after a device change is what it comes down to.

---
So far with testing:
- Not caused by updates nor clean updates with 'Complete'
- Not caused by slipstreaming USB/AHCI drivers onto Install and boot.wim

OK, will check and report back these days, need to finish that other Win10 issue you reported.

Try by not changing in the page Extra services, except Beep, is safe to disable.
