Thank god for Ntlite. They are truely going all out on this route. I can understand ads in other places like internet or video watching but putting ads directly into my operating system is a no no for me!

I totally forgot how good windows 8.1 was after installing it on a old laptop. Just don't like the tiles when clicking the start button but I can fix that... everything else is amazing.

8.1 was the last decent windows.
Got it running at .8 gigs of ram with little tweaks. Moving quite quickly for the old girl with very little usage. Too bad some of the stuff I need working on modern operating systems won't work on windows 8.1 such as my Dolby Atmos app and the such.

If it did I might take a hard long look at it. May I say runs better then 7?

The same for me, I use Windows 10 not because I think the OS is wonderful but because some things don't work or at some point will stop working on older OS, unfortunately. Even so, sometimes I'm tempted to go back to using Windows 8.1 because this OS manages the feat of being very fast and light even when it's full of rubbish from metro apps and other microsoft sh*t, it's very easy to tweak and debloat, respect yours privacy during setup leaving options related to telemetry and privacy disabled by default. Forced telemetry was only added around the time of the advent of the infamous Windows 10, but it's still pretty easy to disable.

In my opinion yes. The core of 8.1 is a turbocharged 7 with much faster boot, better memory management, better data copy speeds, more responsiveness, among many improvements. Technically it's a better system. But it has worse UI and comes with more junk from microsoft. And on weaker machines (mainly very old GPU) Win7 can run better.

Whole heartedly can endorse the 536.23 Nvidia driver. Still says latency issues present(not on mine however) but overall the driver is a decent one. After testing I found it used more vram on my 3060 then my before driver back from January (which actually helps in my frames) and have not seen any issues with it so far.

Back on 8.1(Pro) because i was getting too many "missing driver" errors during W7 setup even though there were NO missing drivers. What good's an os if you cant install the bloody thing?

Worse UI and additional bloat + resources use are easily sorted on regular Pro and its as easy to tweak as 7 and goes just aswell after ive hammered it. Only caveat is driver support.

8GB can be a bit tight if you do online stuff and vm's but for an offline machine its enough to ok(ish).
Some users are up crap creek without a paddle because their ram is soldered onto the board so they gotta cut down resource use somehow.

A lot of used oem machines may come with w10 but they might be factory w7 and 8.1 capable, see a machine for sale and see what os options were availible from the factory. My 2 laptops(same model) came both w7 and w8.1 from dell.

I will chew that food when i have to but while i still have a choice 8.1 it is. Most people are not tech savvy or dont have a choice because their hardware or needs dictate 10(+).

In all honesty I probably would have used 8.1 on the main system but it doesn't work for Dolby Atmos which is the biggest thing I need for my entertainment system. Maybe I could find a way to get it to work but that's another day

Just found out that Rufus 4.1 allows you to select partition size on a boot key, ive got 9gigs for debian live(will reduce that later) and a 20gb partition for stuff on 1 key, Hosanna :D

W8.1 EoL capture 8.1 will not "hold/keep" the Administrator account.
Sysprep uses the Administrator account yeah, after a restart a popup window says "signed into a temporary account, something something something", its also happening on the deployed image. Scheduled tasks is ballsed up too, a task appears that wipes out the Administrator account on each system startup. F-knows why and i didnt have the werewithal to backtrack and see which update caused it during sysprep.
Said sod it and went back to 10. garlin s quote of "intern" and "sloppy programming" sprang to mind.

incorrect. there is alot of ignorance and hate based around windows 10. i personally don't understand it. windows 8.1 is more buggy, more slow, and also cannot run the latest windows games, no support for directx12. is less secure, etc. i understand people do not have the required hardware specifications to run windows 10, but that is no fault of the OS.

Everyone is allowed their own opinion, and not everyone uses their computer for gaming.

Exactly, there has been tests and overall surprisingly 8.1 was a very quick system when compared from xp,vista,7, and 10/11. Each person has there needs and they should still be respected for there choices.
