What really makes me laugh is ms say to uninstall a CU to fix the audio error(for example). Uninstall the offending CU and you remove the security patches which is why you updated in the first place for crying out loud. Go back to individual updates MS for petes sake

At what point can we use our computers for the reasons we bloody well bought them for and not constantly ponce about with the bloody operating system? It really makes my piss boil.

Right guys, im gonna stop posting windows 10 bug related news. Check the monthly bug reports before posting an issue, it could be an MS bug.

I should probably cross post this in the Win8.1 forum too. But for now, it seems that software manufacturers are moving on, and expecting the underlying OS to carry some of the load for some software features. For example, Cyberlink says that its new PowerDirector 18 requires Win8.1 or Win10 for some audio work.

Similarly, DaVinci's Resolve High End video editor requires Win10. (Although I tricked it into running on Win8.1)

So it's looking like that's the final push for me - I've been using Win8.1 about 70% of the time now, dropping back to Win7 when I need to access some old programs. Guess it's time for me to bite the bullet and install my old programs on Win8.1.

As you've pointed out, it appears that Win8.1 has many of the underlying features of Win10, but (thankfully) without the spyware. But I've heard that Win10 has native HVEC decode, 10 bit video, etc. in it that programs like Corel's video editor rely on.

8.1 looks like 10. The problem is hardware support, 8.1 is the unloved child when it comes to drivers, all you can really do is investigate for yourself.
I am going to blow my own trumpet, i can tweak anything given time and i dont need windows to get online. Ive whipped LTSC's arse on everything except telemetry, actually i have, i airgapped it and shutdown all the services it needs to get online, ive not really mastered telemetry, ive just taken it out of the equation. I am considsering going laptops only, less space, easier to move. I know what that means, w10 but hopefully 1809.

It all boils down to driver support, if you pop over to win-raid and see the amount of work people are doing to keep xp alive, i couldnt do that. Tweaking i can.

I cant really contribute to liting anymore or help in the forum because stuff ie either beyond my knowledge or that most days my brain only runs on 1 maybe 2 cylinders, 4 on rare occasion. I have forgotten a lot of stuff and lost a lot of work to.

Really great tweaks carry over from os to os and from build to build with 10, they just may need a few changes. Nuhi has a free hand to use any he likes. :)

Have you considered mac/hackintosh?

If you've kludged it to run on 8.1 try whipping that encoder from a w10 image, extract the install wim with 7zip and place into 8.1.

"The Windows maker said that now it's focusing on "three key areas of improvement in 20H1: excessive disk and CPU usage " (scroll down a bit) but wont do sod all about the absolutely rediculous amount of space hogging and logging . Thats 1 thing about windows that really makes my wee boil dry .

Excessive disk usage, (find and)run tweaks that cut down absolutely rediculous amount of space hogging and logging - I got that sorted.
Excessive cpu usage, run a Barebone Services file(and kludges on a default install) - I got that sorted, i make my own.
