W8.1-Tweak-Pack-1D-2019-11-28 has the take ownership reg file - W8.1-HKCR-Context-Menu-Add-Take-Ownership.reg, pack doesnt have sleep though.
ultraform can you upload w7-sleep-disable.reg for hypnotoad please :)

HypnoToad, i have not worked on liting 7 in a long time so i cant remember much at all apart from a 1.26gb installed size once pagefile prefetch restore hibernation and sleep are disabled but i warn you now that that may not be the best preset for you, i built it for me and my needs were extreme at that stage, go ahead and give it a try if you want.

You may be better off going to my interesting stuff page and look for What and why not to remove [Win 7] by Kasual, he has a far greater and better all round technical knowledge than me and he may have a suitable preset somewhere, i think he recently posted something here somewhere but he is the better person to give you good all round advice :)

Actually you could use W7-Lite-v4.xml as a starting point then add whatever Kasual suggests on his thread.

That that does sound good, I should have mentioned before I'm looking to try making a small Win7 in order to make VirtualBox VM's, I don't really need much functionality, things can be broken within reason. 1.26gb is very good, so far I've managed to get Win7 down to 2.5GB installed but this was only with removing a few components

I'll check out the 'What and why not to remove [Win 7]', and I've found a few ot the missing '.reg' tweaks in this thread here:

Would be interesting to watch out and test the preset that got Win 7 down to 2.5 GB.

I managed to take it down to 2.25 but:
For some aesthetical needs I keep WinSAT, performance and monitoring stuff, some network related stuff.

Removed (250MB - 300 MB) some leftovers, some duplicated files (some gdr folders and kept ldr) but I think I can remove some more in the winsxs folder.
The install.wim file goes down to 600 MB

Would be the uploaded a preset here:

Kasual Thank for for uploading those files :) Ahh, the goggle chrome thread, i knew id seen it somewhere.

HypnoToad ahh, ok, as long as you know the barebone presets pitfalls then great, give it ago. It wont have VM support so you will need to add VM support in Compatibility and Drivers and Hardware Support. To get 7 down to that size i had to disable all nuhi's protections so you will need to modify your settings.xml in ntlites program folder, DisableProtections>false</DisableProtections change false to true.

Disable hibernation sleep pagefile prefetch superfetch system restore, there should be reg files in the 8.1 tweak pack.

I have this working really good and small however I tried to clone it with VMware converter for a project and it is missing all of the Microsoft VSS writers. If you do a vssadmin list writers, I think it needs the following writer. What would be the easiest way to add this back into my image without having to start from scratch. Thanks.

Writer name: 'Shadow Copy Optimization Writer'
Writer Id: {4dc3bdd4-ab48-4d07-adb0-3bee2926fd7f}
Writer Instance Id: {e12b90e6-dc72-4b02-b619-1df5a8d3458d}
State: [1] Stable
Last error: No error

i'll ping Kasual, he knows a lot :)
Well, I can remember (once or twice times) needed things and Volume Shadow Copy was needed but can't remember yet what I wanted to do.

Do you know which thing removed would cause the VSS writers to go missing?
Can't verify right now but seems related to Windows Backup and/or Volume Shadow Copy/Services component.

Hi,

Trust you are well.
I am looking for a bare-bones win 10 (x64) preset for an offline gaming pc for running below components:

Nvidia graphic card
On-board Realtek Audio Codec with analog output for standard pair of bookshelf speakers
PS/2 mouse
PS/2 keyboard
SATA SSD
SATA DVD Drive

Everything else will be deactivated on this pc including USB ports.

Any help/guidance is appreciated.

Thanks

Hi all, this is my first post and I am totally new to NTLite. I hope it is ok to bump relatively old threads here...

I have just downloaded the latest Windows 10 20H2 ISO (including December updates, released Dec 16th) using my Visual Studio Developer Subscription.
I have a 7 years old Lenovo Y510p 39,6 cm (15,6 inch) Notebook (Intel Core i7 4700MQ, 3,4 GHz, 16GB RAM, 256GB SSD, NVIDIA GeForce GT 755M / 2 GB and would love to remaster it using an optimized ISO. (https://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B00FBGI34I)

Questions:

1. In general, is it possible to use NTLite presets that had been created for older versions of Windows 10 or are presets always version-dependant?

2. Does it make sense to use Win 10 Pro or would you always take the ISO of the Home edition? E.g. I would still like to have the possibility of launching GPEDIT. (However, I've found guides explaining how to install GPEDIT in the Home edition with a batch file...)

3. I would like to keep the possibility of using Windows Apps from the Microsoft Store. But of course, any other default crap like the Maps app, smartphone app, 3D viewer app etc must be purged. Telemetry, OneDrive, Edge. Disabled Windows Defender notifications (or the complete Security Center) or any other annoying stuff. Always full admin rights and no user account management notfication stuff. I assume this is all possible using one of the existing presets?

Thank you in advance! And Happy New Year! Take care and stay healthy!

How about making this a 'sticky'?? ;)
its not worth it to be honest, all my presets are old and im not writing presets anymore. people are managing to find it anyway.
we "may" be having a new Preset topic courtesy of AeonX which will be worth being a sticky as it seems his presets are more involved than mine(mine are for beginners after all) and if he is keeping up with later builds. this old thread can slowly retire and gather dust, and so can i.

But, so is Win 7 and there are many that still use it since they aren't interested in the additional bloat of W10.
Beside, there are plenty of "beginners" out there. ;)

so there is room for both threads, everyones a winner then :)
7 and 8.1 arent dead yet and they wont be for at least another 5 years, there are plenty of oem machines about that came with both.
the trouble with beginners is they all want to run before they can walk

I agree that this topic should be kept alive :)

I plan to do presets for Windows 7 and 8.1 also just need more free time.

For me 7/8.1 will only be dead when Chrome/Firefox stop supporting them.

Exactly.
