Remove NVIDIA Telemetry (and slim down display driver)

You can do the same with amd display and chipset drivers. The usbfileter driver is a swine, it doesnt show in device manager and the full package installer is the only way to install it. Dont think its needed on 8.1 because of native usb3/3.1 support, im not having any problems without it.

Yeah, I did SMBus manually. I don't know what USBfilter does. Windows seems to work fine before I install USBfilter.

The smbus in 8.1 is old and its just an inf file. You need iommu if its enabled in bios, usually shows as a pci device if i remember correctly. I hate saying IIRC.

My BIOS is a bit confusing (to me) about IOMMU. It offers two choices - default and 64MB.

After learing that IOMMU is supposed to help VM performance, I changed my BIOS setting to 64MB.

I can't tell any difference. Windows never complained that I didn't have the driver. And VBox doesn't seem to run any faster.

Interesting link.

Well, I'm not mapping any HW (that I know of) in VBox.

Maybe if I select 3D Acceleration it would grab my nVidia GPU automatically?

Funny thing is that the AMD installer saw that I had a hole in Windows there, and installed IOMMU to fill the hole.

Well, not a problem. It's a small driver and only 64MB of RAM if I leave it in.

Just for interesting sake. The PPC folder in the NVidia driver pack is for the new RTX graphics cards. It is NOT compatible with ANY other windows other than windows 10-1709 and upwards and is NOT included in the windows 7 and 8.1 driver packs. The PPC driver is the USB 3.1 support driver that is embedded onto the RTX cards. There is no known difference in performance whether it is installed or not.

Then, to get rid of the GFExperience driver error issue when removing GFExperience. Simply extract the rar file and copy this "setup.cfg" file into the driver list, overwriting the other one, and it will stop complaining about issue's it has when removing the folders. It is from an older version NVidia driver pack.

I just edit this line next to the version to keep track of the driver when it installs because it show the driver version when it installs

<setup title="${{ProductTitle}}" version="419.35" installerMin="2.1002.158.1139">

Cheers

I am working on a newer version of my idea since NVidia has change tactics with the driver. Will post it shortly. Have tried the slimmer maneuver but it gives Experience driver issues with the new NVidia drivers on 4 of my machines ranging from Win7, Win8.1 and Win10 with cards ranging from GTX 1050Ti and RTX 2080Ti.

NVCleanstall has the same issue as Slimmer, NVidia control panel not found. The programs aren't removing the strings in the app's and is trying to load them. I will find a better solution and post them once I found it.

NVSlimmer works fine for me. I have no problems installing the Nvidia Control Panel with a slimmed driver package. I should note, however, that I always use DDU beforehand.

Still works ? just delete the folders and run the setup?
Yes, that's what NVSlimmer and NVCleanstall do. I prefer to use the programs because it is much more practical and intuitive. I like NVCleanstall better as it has some interesting tweaks.

I install it. I click Recommended. Then I just add USB-C Driver (If your GPU is before series 16 and 20, that is before Turing, this is not necessary).

Wow learn something new everyday.

I do game and I do have a fast computer but that's not the point. I hate having all this unnecessary junk shoved in my face. I'm not looking for an ecosystem (I spray those with liberal amounts of bleach when I find one those growing somewhere) I just want the minimum required for compatibility and for it to work.

some of the other companies are really bad for this (Corsair, Razor, Asus)

Going to take a look at the clean up tools,

Question: Is there a way of repackaging the NVIDIA installer so that it can be used with an unattended install ? my computers pretty much only uses NVIDIA cards and as windows 7 is unlikely to receive any future updates. So it somewhat makes sense to bundle it into the Operating system installer.

By the way, I'm looking for a replacement for the Corsair icue, for configuring macros and lighting.

NVCleanstall can rebuild a new installer for you, on the last screen.
There are poorly documented unattended options, but you can search NVIDIA's forums to get a list of them.
