Security-level Telemetry on Win10 Home + Pro?

Hey guys,

If I set telemetry to "Security" instead of "Basic" on a Windows 10 Home or Windows 10 Pro ISO (using NTLite), will it really be the same as setting telemetry to Security on Windows 10 Enterprise? Or, since it's not Enterprise, will it stay at Basic telemetry since the Security option isn't supported?

Thanks!

It has no effect, allowed telemetry level is harcoded in each edition Product Policy

Really???

nuhi I never knew this... Maybe you should add a disclaimer with that option in NTLite?

Something like "This option only works with Enterprise, Education and IoT Core Images"

(I got that list from here)

You can see which settings are available for your Windows version in the Settings - Diagnostics.
Attached screenshot for Professional.
I don't agree that you cannot configure it at all. Granted, I should filter the options a bit, will add this in todo.

Thanks both.

Yeah, the problem is when someone wants to set telemetry to "Security" instead of "Basic". As you can see in your screenshot, there is no option for "Security" in Windows 10 Pro. I thought NTLite was able to change that since the option was there in NTLite.

Also, I noticed on my ISO there's a "Professional Education" edition... does "Security" telemetry work on that version?

I just tried making a Pro Education ISO and didn't see a security option under telemetry, so I guess not....

The security option is in the group policy editor and NOT under the normal settings option. Even in enterprise, it isn't under the normal settings option, only basic and full are there.

You sure about that? I could have sworn last time I used LTSB it was there...

I also just tried going to "Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Data Collection and Preview Builds" in gpedit.msc under the Win 10 Pro Education ISO and the only thing there was "Toggle user control over Insider Builds".

Check the info from the official documentation here, hopefully it's not obsolete as they keep on changing that:

Diagnostic data levels
This section explains the different diagnostic data levels in Windows 10, Windows Server 2016, and System Center. These levels are available on all desktop and mobile editions of Windows 10, except for the Security level, which is limited to Windows 10 Enterprise, Windows 10 Education, Windows 10 Mobile Enterprise, Windows 10 IoT Core (IoT Core), and Windows Server 2016.

So I'll leave the settings as is, let me know if you prove that it's not working.
Thanks.

It doesn't work if the edition is Windows 10 Home or Pro, even though the option is available.

So I think it's confusing, since some users will set it to "Security" and think it's working, even though it won't work.

I already knew about the Windows editions that support the Security telemetry setting, but I thought NTLite was still able to set telemetry to Security even on Home and Pro, since the option was there.

It might be a good idea to add a disclaimer that "The Security option only works on Windows 10 Education, Enterprise, IOT Core and Server"

But you're right, this isn't really a bug, it's just misleading.

The tweak's description was always:
"Lowest setting, Security level (0), is documented as not supported on Win10 Pro and Home, equals to Basic."
So it will just bump it a level, not ignore completely.

Ideally removing that description and auto-filtering would be nice, just takes more time which I would gladly spend elsewhere.
