Probably:
'Video Compression Manager (VCM) codecs'
and/or:
Windows Media Player

I don't think is affected by Intel Indeo Codecs nor Speech recognition.

@truefriend-cz, have you tried the same situation on full Windows?
In other words this doesn't sound related to removals since Skype 8 works. Maybe reset your Skype 7 settings.

Yes, on full Windows working ok. I apply NTLite build on two PCs, some problem.
I tested:
- Updated Audio drivers
- Older Skype versions from 7.40.... to 7.29... (older Skype not connected account - limit on Skype server)

,but not fixed.

Next testing now (Step by step activating items).

Here is a screenshot of loaded Live image what I have, And My skype working
Vocie call and chatt and the sounds.
On windows 7 x64 with intregaded Kasual's Windows update List

I tested with changes:

- Activate: Video Compression Manager (VCM) codecs
- Activate: Indeo 'Intel Indeo Codecs'
- Activate: Windows Media Player, Multimedia
- Activate: fs filters (audio, compression, anti-virus, etc...)
- Activate: Skype ORTC
- Activate: All Microsoft drivers (without Hyper-V drivers)

Not fixed.

Chat sounds (on Skype 7.xx...) and other sounds is ok, but calling sound only (humans). Tested on real calling and Skype echo sound test service. Any sound settings in Skype, any system sound settings.

Nuhi, thanks. For download i find server with Skype older versions (full package versions) on http://www.skaip.org/skype-versions
Sources for my use:
8.17.0.2: http://www.skaip.org/skype-8-17-0-2-for-windows
7.40.0.151: http://www.skaip.org/skype-7-40-0-151-for-windows (and portable from https://portableapps.com/apps/internet/sportable)

Should be good in 6174, let me know if it's still an issue.

Thanks.

Hey I got the same problem? Skype 7 neither side can hear the other (and no, I assure you it has nothing to do with audio drivers). Skype 8 won't install at all and metro skype gives an error upon opening it.

I'm trying to find just what is causing it. And just like the op, it works fine on unaltered windows.

@Toad004, make sure to try the latest version, should be fine now.

For installing apps you need to keep Core Metro Support, enable in Components - Compatibility.

You can use Host Refresh to reinstall/migrate without reinstalling your apps and data.
Let me know how it goes.

Oh, the app will install, just not work (it will open and stay open, but it will open to a "something went wrong" error screen). Other apps work just fine.
As for what in NTLite actually causes it, it seems to be something under "Hardware support". I'm trying to narrow down what actually causes it.

I'm pretty sure that it has something to do with the update to windows, that some obscure driver is now necessary for Skype that wasn't before.

EDIT: Uninstalling the component "User Data Storage" appears to break skype (specifically, stopping the speakers and mic from working but only during calls). Against all logic, this still seems to apply even to the classic skype, even though "User Data" isn't supposed to have control or any connection over non-windows store apps.

Several components in hardware support seem to break skype in combination, though none of them break skype if they are the only component removed. Weird.
