1) what is the difference between disabling UAC and removing UAC in terms of elevation? i am against removal since u can't know what will need what but i wonder if there is a differance?

2) what is the best setting to disable uac in ntlite without removing it. is these settings ok? (see related image)

3) this happens when you remove uac components there are leftovers (see related image)

Hi

1) Except the error under #3 i dunno what excactly diff is but keeping as it seems needed for Edge + Sandbox and also gets locked by compatibility: MS Office + Recommended.

2) tried forth and back i’ve ended up with this without any UAC prompts (see UAC image). Anyway i found that some downloaded files anyway get blocked and you can see that from rightclick on file and have to Unblock it to open without prompt. Maybe this behaviour is caused by keeping Defender even i disabled all SmartScreen functions!?! Only way i found to avoid this is using GPO as showed here

francis11 i use Streams Remover by sordum to unblock files. its small and portable and you can add a context menu option to unblock files in a folder.

thank you very much, but i already have take ownership context menu, i think its not the problem we are trying to solve here, there will be processes or services that u won't be able to take ownership when run. we are not trying to remove or rename a file, its about how things get processed at background

mine was smilar to yours but recent days i saw a comment of nuhi's and he was saying disable option 2, so i had to ask because whatever i do it seems disabled but i can't be sure because well it gets disabled nearly in every freakin combination.

Disable_block_downloaded_files.reg should solve the problem? in my case it does?

TakeOwnership dosn't Unblock files downloaded or drag'n'dropped from Outlook to any folder. Instead of use any thirdparty tool to Unblock files/ folders-subfolders one can add the Add_Unblock_context_menu.reg from here

Sure - my mistake as have to use regtweak instead of gpo on Windows Home - the Disable_block_downloaded_files.reg workaround was shown at the bottom of the same url.

I still have UAC prompts after using your UAC settings and they cause this problem.

My settings show the slider in Controlpanel is at the bottom to Never notify. So it does as supposed.
Have difficulty to see how this should occupy your usb!?!

I've never heard of "streams" before. So I went to Sordum's website to learn about Streams Remover.

He says that all files on an NTFS volume have a stream attribute. But I looked at files in my download folder (which I download to another partition - not the standard Windows' "download" location) and I do not see any notice that "This file came from another computer ..."

Then I looked at my friend's brand new Acer laptop. It does show the Stream notice on downloaded files.

Not that I'm complaining. I've never heard of "Attachment Manager" either. I must have done something right with NTLite to remove this?

XP x64 wouldnt let an exe run if it was blocked. i'll say this till the cows come home, Nirsoft and Sordum are absolute goldmines :) , i couldnt live without Power Run, Reg From App and Reg Convert

Depending too of the file types. For now the option to unblock downloaded files don't exist in NTL for 7-8-8.1 or 10.
Somehow - in some strange way even if defender is ditched and SmartScreen is blocked in reg or gpo - MS is still comparing downloaded files up against some online database. In the new MS EDGE your downloads get blocked if you unclick SmartSreen and have to choose if the file is keep or delete.

ms protects you from everyone except ms. the biggest malware/virus i had on my system was defender, wiped out files i could never get again

Or maybe it's because, when I install Windows, I don't have an Internet connection? And so MS can't create an online account for me from which to snoop?

who knows when it comes to ms  but the file blocking is part of the ntfs file system and nuhi dont touch that. one of liffe's great mysteries.
