Unable to run Office OneNote

Is there a solution in case I have deleted "Snipping Tool" with an earlier version of NTLite?
How could I fix it so that OneNote works?
Simply use the Host Refresh wizard with full ISO + updates + previous preset + manual changes, let me know if you have specific questions about the process.

What would happen if I used an untouched Windows 10 Enterprise x64 ISO on a Windows 10 Pro x64 system? Would I keep my files and programs?
If setup allows you to proceed with the upgrade (just run setup.exe and see for yourself), and you get prompted "Keep apps and files", then yes.
You might be getting the "Keep" options dimmed, and it insists on resetting it all most likely.
In other words, don't know but I've seen both situations, just don't have the Microsoft rules at hand.

I won't be able to choose the option to keep apps and files most likely.

My NTlite Version is 1.6.3.6240. My Windows 10 Version is 10.0.17134. Please Help. Sorry, screenshot is in german.

macomar, did you remove OneNote app from Windows itself prior to that?
In it there is a protection for a piece of TabletPC.
If you didn't remove OneNote, then please attach the preset demonstrating the issue.
One idea would be if it's a 64-bit OS with 32-bit OneNote 2016?
Do you have the option to install 64-bit OneNote, in which case if you didn't remove OneNote prior, it should work.

Thanks.

Hello Nuhi,

yes i removed the OneNote App from the Windows Iso via NTlite.

Was that wrong ? Can i fix this, do i have to build a new reference image for the rollout ?

You could make a new image and then do a Host Refresh or just run setup.exe from the ISO root. Running from a network share with a script would simplify even more.
That upgrades the OS without loosing any custom changes after the installation. If it's just the ISO deployment so far, then redo it.

Btw I would not recommend to remove components if you do a massive rollout, especially if not pre-tested. As Components page warns that on the first visit.
With Host Refresh that issue is reduced, but you might need to become pro-efficient in running it from a network share with a script.
It is doable, then you have fast restoration and can go a bit edgier than recommended.

Hello nuhi,

thank you very much for the infos. Is there an NTlite how-to for customizing windows 10 without all the annoying apps (specially store, cortana, onedrive, games etc.) to roll out windows 10 professional in the company ?

Thanks
Macomar

I just noticed that I have this problem again (although it looks like it wasn't caused by the Snipping Tool removal, this time). I didn't have it after making an ISO with a previous NTLite version (not the ones which caused the same problem after removing the Snipping Tool but one that was released after those ones). Does that mean that I mustn't remove the Office.OneNote app on NTLite when I don't want it? Why is it called Office.OneNote and not OneNote when Windows 10 doesn't come with an app called this way but with an app called OneNote? If I don't remove it I'll have the app that comes with Windows 10 which is called OneNote (and not Office.OneNote like it shows up in NTLite).

EDIT: Weird, I only removed the Office.OneNote app on NTLite and installed Windows 10 in a VM and I didn't have the problem.

EDIT 2: Now I removed and configured other things (in addition to removing the Office.OneNote app on NTLite) and I have the problem again so it must be another thing that after being removed or configured causes is.

Hi to all,

i set up a W10 test vm in hyper-v on my laptop with a new customized ISO file. I only removed theses apps: Advertising.Xaml, Wallet,
DesktopAppInstaller, Feedback Hub, Messaging, OfficeHub, OneConnect, SolitaireCollection, Windows Mail (communicationsapps), Xbox App,
Xbox.TCUI, XboxGameOverlay, XboxGamingOverlay, XboxIdentityProvider, XboxSpeechToTextOverlay, Zune Music, Zune Video,
OneDrive, XboxGameCallableUI. Everything works fine now after i installed Office 2016 32-bit - and OneNote opens :)

When you remove a provisioned app, windows creates a registry key that tells windows not to reinstall or update that app the next time Windows is updated. If the computer isn't online when you deprovision the app (like in NTlite), then windows doesn't create that registry key. To prevent these apps from reappearing at the next update, manually create a registry key for each app, then update the Computer. I created a regfile with these components to set the deprovisioned registry-keys (see attached files).
Here the original microsoft article -> https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/wi...agement/remove-provisioned-apps-during-update

Could this be fixed by the developer of NTlite ?

nuhi sure can do that.

I can't run Office OneNote. It states it needs Desktop Experience installed. What's weird is that I have this issue if using the below preset but if I don't remove Tablet PC I don't and if I only remove Tablet PC I do so maybe it's a combination of something I remove/configure with the removal of Tablet PC?

We talked about this long time ago, keep OneNote app in the ISO, that will protect the piece of TabletPC needed, or keep TabletPC.

Well, try again, as in your preset there is OneNote removed, so no point in testing with known outcome.

I just don't understand what does this OneNote app (and Tablet PC) have to do with Office OneNote.
Related to C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Ink\ files, it's a dependency that's in TabletPC component.
Microsoft doesn't support removal of components, so we need to workaround such dependencies.
In this case I used the OneNote app, due to being OneNote related, to tag that protection if it's kept.

For people who don't need that kept, they don't keep OneNote app and the tool completely cleans those files.
Different approach would be to split the component piece as another component, but that is not worth the time, as it's only one user complaining about this and there are better things to add.
