The updates show pending even thou it is a final rip. This even after 2 rips of the same OS. I don't know if it must show like this thus the reason for asking?!

This is normal, some updates cannot be directly integrated to an image, they can only be done on a running system, xp was the same. Its the same with some .nets and c++ stuff. To get them fully integrated, installed not pending is to capture an image.

Untouched iso's will sometimes have Pending updates too.

nuhi, questions.
An untouched image may have Pending updates, is it possible to remove them? If they aint installed but just on a list somewhere it should be possible i would have thought.
nLite would show a list of updates that didnt directly integrate but were queued to install during setup, Would that be possible with NTLite?

I went through a stage were i would only add updates that directly integrated, i wonder if other users did/want to do the same.

This is an old thread, but since I've been looking into pending.xml lately (on a stubborn Win7 machine): I have never seen the screen that Saaglem showed in his OP that shows any of my updates are Pending. Does that mean that if I load a Live NTLite and NTLite doesn't show any updates Pending, that Windows is sure that there's nothing in pending.xml or in the registry at SessionsPending that it is trying to secretly update? (Or, in other words, I don't need to hack around in Windows, deleting the pending.xml or other Sessions stuff?)

If nothing is showing as pending on a live system or a captured wim then everything has been installed and there is nothing waiting.
I am trying to remind myself of all win 7s downsides so i can ditch it happily.

The only reason that I'm still using Win7 is because I've been too lazy to re-install some of my "go to" apps on Win8.1 (Along with whatever customizations I did to them in Win7.) But Dragon NaturallySpeaking was probably the hardest to reinstall, and that one has been done for a while now. I should get my butt in gear and get WPOffice installed and my old Copernic. Then I don't think I'll ever need to boot Win7 again.

But that still leaves my friend's Win7 box.

Get your friend onto 8.1 if possible. Not sure i want to go back to 7 or 8.1, out of the 2 it would be 8.1 though. Get your butt going and get your stuff onto 8.1 and w10, only 2 os to service then. :)

"Install pending" updates are only in images or the latest installed waiting for reboot because need to replace files and/or to be registered.
There is no need to look inside deep on live Windoze.
