Hi,
The Servicing Stack Update of September (KB4516655) cannot be integrated in the Windows 7 SP1 original image (x86 Ultimate).
It is ignored.

NTLite 1.8.0.7115:

Log:
Error 0x80092004 '[8196]' KB4516655 - Servicing Stack Update

There is also the same error for the last cumulative update (KB4516065 2019-09).
Error 0x80092004 '[8196]' KB4516065

Thank you for help.

Hi,

thanks for the notice.
Seems like the new KB4474419 SHA-2 update is needed before that servicing stack.
I'll correct the tool and release an updated version, until then please integrate that KB first with Apply - Save Stop, then reload and continue as planned with all at once.

Let me know if that helped.

I've tried that.
Integrating KB4474419 (v3) first does not fix the issue.

It works if I add the previous SSU (KB4490628) before KB4516655.
This should not be necessary since Microsoft says that KB4516655 supersedes KB4490628.

Fixed version uploaded, please try now with just adding all online updates at once.
In my tests just the latest and that old old servicing stacks were needed, not 3.

Let me know how it goes. Thanks.

I'm trying to integrate this new service stack as well but am having no luck. What exactly do I have to do? My KB4474419 is v3.

As I said above, integrating KB4474419 first does NOT fix the issue. So there is no change with the new version (7120).
One (temporary) solution is to add the previous superseded SSU (KB4490628) as said here.

Thanks for insisting, my mistake was that in the update cache folder I had KB4490628 and when selecting 2 servicing stacks during the testing I thought I'm selecting the old KB2533552.

That said, point of the build 7120 was to correctly move SHA2 update to the top as otherwise it would still not work.
Update list updated with KB4490628 being back, now it should all work with the latest version only.

Thanks everyone for reporting.

Am I doing something wrong?
Hm there is not much to it, you cannot do anything wrong, so let's see what went wrong.

I have now retested it on a fresh Win7 SP1 ISO and it went fine.

Try these:
- Make sure to Verify the update list, you'll see the button on the right of the Updates Downloader window
All should be green after verify
- Make sure to start with a fresh unedited ISO
- Reboot if you haven't, make sure that there is enough free space on the temp/scratch locations (File - Settings, leave on default if it is)
- if it still fails, please upload %temp%\ntlite_dism.log and %temp%\ntlite.log

Thanks.

Thanks. It ended up being me doing something stupid. For some reason, I renamed that one update after adding that update to NTLite.

Just a one more question about this whole thing:
Is this KB4516655 issue considered resolved, or will there be a future version of NTLite that will allow us to integrate it without having superseded KB4490628 required as well? I'm not sure if this is a bug or a Microsoft documentation error at this point.

In case if anyone is wondering, it is definitely Microsoft's error.

this will also happen if you attemp to install the latest SSU on a running system. you MUST install the previous version first. This is obviously a bug on MS's part, since the latest SSU is supposed to replace all previous versions.

So for the October 2019 roll up (KB4524157), Microsoft wants you to install KB4474419 before installing the roll up.... but the October roll up replaces KB4474419...

Edit: I created an install with the October patch but without KB4474419. Windows updates wants to install KB4474419 in that state, so I guess it is needed.

you need to install 4474419 v3 and the latest SSU, but you must also install the previous SSU FIRST (4490628) , or else you can not install the latest SSU and the latest cumm. update. the idiots at M$ did it again...

microsoft corrected the information, now KB4516655 DOES NOT REPLACE KB4490628, moreover KB4490628 IS A REQUIRED UPDATE ,along with 4474419 before installing the latest cumm update. then, it is HIGLY recommended to install the latest SSU.

Tonight I tried Processing a vanilla Win7 SP1 iso using NTLIte v 2.3.2.8526.

I deleted all the files in my last year's Updates Folder to let NTLite sniff again to find the latest Updates.

I selected most of them for download, but not all. (For example, I did not download previous Service Stacks.) I figured that NTLite would warn me with a red X if any of the Updates needed an earlier KB to install.

When I ran NTLite, none of the Updates showed a Red X. (I presume that Feature still works?)

[EDIT: Oh wait. Do I have to click on something to do this checking? I vaguely recall, "Yes." Sigh. I'll go back and do it again.]
[EDIT 2: Oh, that was the "Analyze" button, which is not showing, since none of my KB's are showing a Red X.]

Yet I received an error window during Processing that a few KB's could not be installed.

Mostly Error # 8196. (Although something about a syntax error in a KB.)

Code:
Integrating: KB5006749 - Servicing Stack Update 6.1.1.2 - Error 0x80092004 - [8196]
Integrating: KB3172605 6.1.1.4 - Error 0x800736b5 - [14005] The manifest file contains one or more syntax errors.
Integrating: KB4534310 - Cumulative Update 7601.24544.1.9 - Error 0x80092004 - [8196]
Integrating: KB4539602 6.1.1.2 - Error 0x80092004 - [8196]
Integrating: KB4532945 - .NET Framework Update 6.1.1.1 - Error 0x80092004 - [8196]

I'm guessing, from this thread, that Error # 8196 is a missing prerequisite.

I started over again and this time I set NTLite to do "Standard Extraction" of the KB's, just in case this was some kind of parallel processing error.

No change.

I'm sure it is difficult to keep track of all the prerequisites, especially for an OS that almost orphaned.

But here's my log anyway, in case nuhi wants to set Red X's.

And my Preset.

I went back and downloaded the (older) Service Stack updates that were labeled Pre-requisite (which, actually, should be one word, "Prerequisite") or were labeled "legacy completeness." This time Processing completed without error.

So, in a way, NTLite does know which KB's are required. It's just that it's not always showing that they're missing on the Updates "tab."
