Wallpaper Locations, Resolutions, and bit depths

Windows 10 and 11's default desktop wallpapers are stored in C:\Windows\Web. This folder usually contains subfolders named after different wallpaper themes (such as “Flowers” or “Windows”) or resolutions (“4K”). You can find the default Windows 10 and 11's wallpaper, which is the one with the light beams and the Windows logo, inside the C:\Windows\Web\4K\Wallpaper\Windows folder.

This little guide will direct you to where they are, so you can change them (inside your iso by whatever means you decide to) to your own personal choice at the correct resolution without any issues. There are many guides circulating around youtube and other places, but they just give the basic ' Take your wallpaper, rename it and put it in 'x' folder ' , but I have found that some people do have issues with it actually appearing correctly if at all.

The “4K” folder has the default Windows 10 wallpaper in lots of different resolutions, even for vertical screens. The “Screen” folder contains wallpapers that are used by default for the Lock screen. The “Wallpaper” folder has both the default Windows 10 wallpaper and the other wallpapers it comes with, including those that belong to the “Flowers” and “Windows 10” themes.

Going by this principle, under Windows 10 ( including windows LTSC and Iot ) it is safe to resize your chosen image to the exact same resolution as the images located inside the 4k folder. With this image, it would be advisable to resize your own image to the ones listed in the 4k folder, with the exact resolutions as listed.

Using Ntlite and Unlocker, you can replace those images with your own. As long as the images are the same resolution and bit depth, you should not have a problem.

Please remember, While you are viewing these folders as NTlite has them open, you will have to use unlocker to remove the images. Copying the new ones into place is as easy as copying a file over from 1 drive to another.

To change these images inside Ntlite, you load up your image, then right click the image and explore mounted image. From here, click to C:\Users\(yourname)\AppData\Local\Temp\NLTmpMnt\Windows\Web\4K\Wallpaper\Windows. These images here, are the ones to replace. Once you have changed those, then you can go to the screen folder if you wish, to change your lock screen ( C:\Users\(yourname)\AppData\Local\Temp\NLTmpMnt\Windows\Web\Screen. Always remember to stick to the same image name and the exact resolution.
Once you have done those (optional) the 'themes' that come with windows 10 are located in C:\Users\(yourname)\AppData\Local\Temp\NLTmpMnt\Windows\Web\Wallpaper. as these are optional, then it is your choice to change them. but always stick to the exact same resolution and file name for each image.

Once you have changed those, you can close the explorer window, go down to Apply in Ntlite and let the changes be applied.

The same in principle applies to windows 11, BUT there are more 'themes' and also the 'touchkeyboard'.

Once again to change these images inside Ntlite, you load up your image, then right click the image and explore mounted image.
Once you have done those (optional) the 'themes' that come with windows 11 are located in C:\Users\(yourname)\AppData\Local\Temp\NLTmpMnt\Windows\Web\Wallpaper. as these are optional, then it is your choice to change them. but always stick to the exact same resolution and file name for each image.

Once you have changed those, you can close the explorer window, go down to Apply in Ntlite and let the changes be applied.

Always remember to have the image you are importing to the iso as the exact same as the one you are replacing (resolution, bit depth), and there shouldn't be any issues.
