IT should be possible to export w7 power settings and import them to ltsc, compare and import to 8.1? Busy today with home stuff, may get a few hours of pc time tonight. Sysinternals has a disc to vhd tool.
wonder if going back to 8.1 is a good idea , no added usb drivvers needed - works on b360 chipset, should work on b365 - 6 sata ports, h310c only has 4. similar to 7 on resources and i have done a lot of work on it already. very
They added new stuff over time, 7 was really low on actual settings. 8 and 10 have much more new stuff. Mostly crap to disable though, and hidden by default. Gotta unhide and config them ;C
I actually extracted them all from 1809 with powercfg I think, I forgot the exact syntax but its not in the regular /? list.
Then search them ID's up in registry and you can use powercfg -attributes 0012ee47-9041-4b5d-9b77-535fba8b1442 d639518a-e56d-4345-8af2-b9f32fb26109 -ATTRIB_HIDE in example.
you can prolly do the same on 7 and 8 and do a diff to see what differences exist.
A bear craps in the woods
The only issue i now have with 7 and 8.1 is that WU wont scan on intel but will do on the 880K and i want to get w7 EOL image fully WU satisfied.
Yea. Windows 7 and updating became quite a hell tbh once they stopped with the invidividual patches. Now they can get away with throwing in more telemetry and other intrusive stuff. Even their security-only cum-updates aren't 100% safe from bs.
Good luck with all that though, I'm 'glad' I see no alternative but 1809 now so I luckily killed off 7 as an option. (Or i would still be tempted)
evolve I probably found out why disabling Acronis drivers (through registry or autoruns) prevents windows from booting. At least the same issue with AOMEI which also has 3 kernel drivers.
To fix this you not only have to disable drivers through HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services
But also have to search exact driver name in here Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class
And they are listed in some keys called 'UpperFilters' or 'LowerFilters'. Gotta remove them from there as well. Otherwise it seems the filesystem filter driver assumes its still there and fails.
Tbh. I think its safer to just disable drivers after boot with sc stop
I wonder if i can use this theory to disable a few more things like bitlocker in my ntlite profile.
still got an ltsc partition active, i forgot, im gonna run your stuff over the top of mine and post a task manager grab. will take me a while cos i gotta consolidate your post setup tweaks with your reggy files. i might havt to seperate hklm(system) and hkcu entries. notepad2(++) and regconvert will make light work of that.
Weep. i aint done yet. It has been relatively easy to get to this and while i have disabled the niceties like audio themes printer and image aquisitition to get here it doesnt feel that much faster and ive lost those bits i like or need. Compare it to the 3 task manager grab i posted, look at 03, theres not a lot of difference between them. All i really need todo is cut out the hogging and logging(my 8.1 tweaks should work).
IF anything its pushing you to find extra savings by using 7 as the standard. Ive still got things totry out but they wont make much of a difference. IF you need a resource light 7 in a vm its handy or a media player/audio recorder/editor then its perfect. Despite ms's best(and sneakiest efforts) people are still hanging on to it, go over to win-raid and people are still hanging onto xp.
