Windows 11

Does this take into account KB5008215? MS is blocking URI handler redirects, leaving MSEdge Redirect because it's a background service.
(For now)

IDK MSEdge Redirect seems to be the best way around, i never used them since i don't have widgets, news, weather and my search only works for local not even enhanced. so i don't get any msedge handler problems

I love when the answer to a question is basically "I don't have this problem because I don't use this function of windows"!

*** Warning, a bit of a Rant ***

It basically validate my 'less is more' theory of OS quality: If they (and that includes linuxes!) made a barebones OS, and instead of a bajillion apps they've bothered to include the 2 dozen runtimes you still have to download and install every format, with the apps and optional features being OPTIONAL (its in the name, how did you miss that!?), not only they'd piss a lot less people but they'd also be able to y'know, charge for those optional features, like they do for office. Imagine a "Pro Upgrade Pack" with features like Azure services and the like instead of it being a windows version? Also, Driverpacks for devices older than... say, 10 years? (Seriously, why do we have tape loader drivers in a 2021 OS?)

My other pet peeve, as stated, its requiring internet for everything (and Linuxes kind of piss me off for that reason). I DON'T WANT TO BE ALWAYS CONNECTED TO A CLOUD!! CLOUDS ARE HUMID, COLD, AND THEY MAKE ME SNEEZE!! (Listen to me, I live atop a mountain and there's clouds galore here), but anyways, on OSs, sure, optional updates, to improve your security and quality of life are great! but you should be able to restart your PC from zero and reinstall all your applications without having to connect to any network for 'security reasons'.

Seriously, its hilarious that the most internet independent OS in 2021 is Android, who was born for devices which are by nature always connected. You can flash the OS, install app packages and configure anything not related to cellphone networks (for obvious reasons) without connecting to the cloud, and only when everything is tight and secure connect and use the device.

My rant, in answer to your rant, confirming the things that make you want to rant in the 1st place.

I love when the answer to a question is basically "I don't have this problem because I don't use this function of windows"!
I still use windows on the basic level that we had in XP when we didnt have all this online crap so "I don't have this problem because I don't use this function of windows" is/would be my contribution to most things posted here.

Seriously, why do we have tape loader drivers in a 2021 OS?
And floppy disc drivers? Because some people will still be using them. Im using Aksys software for 1999 Akai S5000/S6000 samplers. They use scsi, floppy discs, zip and jazz drives. Macs, Ataris, Amigas, people are still using them, look on ebay, a very healthy market.

I DON'T WANT TO BE ALWAYS CONNECTED TO A CLOUD!! CLOUDS ARE HUMID, COLD, AND THEY MAKE ME SNEEZE!!
Clouds are for looking at, flying through and living amongst(for those who live in higher altitudes).
I have to use the cloud but i dont trust it. I prefer my main pc to be air gapped.

My other pet peeve, as stated, its requiring internet for everything
Having to be online and get an ms account because i have to use store to download a graphics driver control panel is total and utter s---e.

And finally we come back to
Warning, a bit of a Rant
Get used to it bub, it aint gonna get any better.

u may replace calculator or paint or photos (even the old one) since they are standalone things. but you cannot remove notepad and getaway with it on win11.... open with notepad option cannot be changed to notepad++ or right click "edit" option won't work even tho u set notepad++ to default for those extensions.

try reg, bat, cmd, txt, ps1 extensions to see the problem. u may even open ntlite and right click on any preset and click edit. u will get error if you removed notepad.

I don't use Notepad++, but your point is about W11 FTA's (file type associations). This rant covers what doesn't work in 20H2+.

NPP's installer doesn't ask to set any file associations, unlike other apps. If you want NPP to change FTA's, it must be done as Administrator. Not ideal, or scriptable. Right-menu option looks like:

If you use the PowerShell PS_SFTA (instead of the similar SFTA.EXE) to register Notepad++ as a ProgID, and then any file extensions under it. Notice the difference in icon appearance:

This tells me some devs haven't spent time figuring out W11 (or 20H2), and they're using the old W8-style registry FTA's.

March '22 CU adds new features to Start Menu, Task Manager, Media Player & Notepad; but also this unwelcome surprise:

In a push to reduce energy consumption on PCs, Microsoft is also changing the default values for sleep and screen off in the power settings in Windows 11. You’ll only see these new settings if you clean install Windows 11, but new PCs in the future will presumably ship with more aggressive sleep / screen off options.

I think this is what "Windows 11" supposed to be....... with refreshed taskbar and task manager.... and more fast+stable+snappy experience. also i like notepad and mediaplayer too

They're breaking their own precedent by slipping new features into CU, instead of a Features or Experience Pack. This makes explaining things to new users even more difficult.

Yikes.

But tucked away toward the bottom of the changelog is one unwelcome addition: like the Home edition of Windows 11, the Pro version will now require an Internet connection and a Microsoft account during setup. In the current version of Windows 11, you could still create a local user account during setup by not connecting your PC to the Internet—something that also worked in the Home version of Windows 10 but was removed in 11. That workaround will no longer be available in either edition going forward, barring a change in Microsoft's plans.

i'm not a fortune teller but i can see more and more things like this happening........

at least with LTSC ....... you dont have this mess around ( until 11ltsc comes out )

am I the only one who still misses the clock with the second hand instead of a calendar I can rule out if I should have forgotten what day of the week it is
(w7) I still have the gadgets clock with the seconds hand. Prefer an analogue clock to a digital one, got a thing for flip clocks.
I actually did lose a day this week .
