Windows 11

Double or nothing. AMD official fixes by next week.
Microsoft on October 12 put out the first Cumulative Updates for the new Windows 11 operating system, since its October 5 release. The company's monthly update packages for Windows are unofficially dubbed "patch Tuesday" updates, as they're scheduled to come out on the second Tuesday of each month. Shortly after Windows 11 launch, AMD and Microsoft jointly discovered that Windows 11 is poorly optimized for AMD Ryzen processors, which see significantly increased L3 cache latency, and the UEFI-CPPC2 (preferred cores mechanism) rendered not working. In our own testing, a Ryzen 7 2700X "Pinnacle Ridge" processor, which typically posts an L3 cache latency of 10 ns, was tested to show a latency of 17 ns. This was made much worse with the October 12 "patch Tuesday" update, driving up the latency to 31.9 ns.

snafu. wonder if 11 was even in the same room as a ryzen pc during development let alone on one.
if it was on one it probably was one 1 only.

according to this post there are nvme speed issues too.

WU pushed out 228.1 MB of October updates. Now my integrated image is all bloated :rolleyes:
yes. it will always be like that from now on. if nuhi can't block it. i send him some documents but i don't know if they are going to work. i recommend at least backing up startmenulayout and restoring it after update or every restart to stabilize your startmenu or use 3rdparty softwares for custom startmenu

Sorry-- I was channeling Clanger's humor w/o the salty bits.... The "new car smell" is slowly wearing off W11 with Patch Tuesday.

btw you can now change startmenulayout easily by a reg file in latest windows 10.
and also windows11 but it needs start.bin file too.

That's expected, rerun Source - toolbar - Remove Returns after each update.

It's a joke!! I don't have any real W11 machines, it's just VM testing.

Does everyone hate the copy/paste icons in the context menu? They're just bad UI design. I think there's a regedit for restoring the old menu.

İ actually loved it because i have surface laptop with detachable screen. so that UI is perfect for pen or finger.... but on my desktop i may use old context menu

I could make a WinXP File Explorer, Startmenu and Taskbar in my Win11 RTM with StartAllBack. Now i can reach every area of Win11 within seconds. It´s a dream! Like this Win11 is a very good OS for me. :)
dude you need to stop promoting that tool. its forbidden to promote 3rd party tools on this forum.

Yeah, the context menu is now a two-click experience for anything other than basic operations.

Indeed it looks like an advertisement, thanks for the heads up.

After audit / Sysprep / Capture W11 (On W10 21H2)
Someone who has good advice and get my "normal" start menu in W11 to work as intended (see attached where other shortcuts are inserted default after).
My Layoutmodification.json gets at least the start menu on the left - but in reality I would like this Computer (File Explorer) to be acutally the only one I get to see.
json files not allowed attaching so here goes the code:
{"pinnedList":[{"desktopAppId":"::{20D04FE0-3AEA-1069-A2D8-08002B30309D}"},{"desktopAppId":"{1AC14E77-02E7-4E5D-B744-2EB1AE5198B7}\\dfrgui.exe"},{"desktopAppId":"{1AC14E77-02E7-4E5D-B744-2EB1AE5198B7}\\cleanmgr.exe"},{"packagedAppId":"Microsoft.ScreenSketch_8wekyb3d8bbwe!App"},{"packagedAppId":"Microsoft.ScreenSketch_8wekyb3d8bbwe!ClassicApp"},{"desktopAppId":"Microsoft.Windows.AdministrativeTools"}]}

francis11 i never used json file. in the past i used defaultlayout.xml and it worked fine for any windows online or offline. but from now on this method is used for online or offline. tested and works perfectly. here it is;

StartMenuLayout Backup & Restore in Windows 11 and Windows 10(Latest Builds ONLY)
From now on startmenulayouts are stored in registry.

Backup and restore this key for Windows 10 and Windows 11
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\CloudStore\Store\Cache\DefaultAccount

But for Windows 11 you also need start.bin file. Backup or restore start.bin file from here; (for online current user)
%localappdata%\Packages\Microsoft.Windows.StartMenuExperienceHost_cw5n1h2txyewy\LocalState\

Note for start.bin placement;
if you place it in to the path starting with %localappdata% it will change only for current user. I MEAN CURRENT USER
if you place it in to the path starting with C:\Users\Default\AppData\Local it will change for every NEW user created. I MEAN DEFAULT USER

Note for offline integration for iso;
Registering the regedit entries will be enough for Windows 10. For Windows 11 you need to both register regedit entries and place start.bin to the folder starting with C:\Users\Default\AppData\Local\ ..... I MEAN DEFAULT USER
