Windows 7 SP1 Cannot Integrate Update KB4537820 - Monthly Rollup

I am using the NTLite (v1.9.0.7304) update downloader feature, and have tried both a fresh, genuine copy (en_windows_7_ultimate_with_sp1_x64_dvd_u_677332.iso) and a copy of that ISO slipstreamed with updates to April of 2019 and I experience the same error.

Both times it was the same update that caused the error: KB4537820 - Monthly Rollup. It hits 99% before getting the error, followed by an "Aborted - Package integration [2096]" error.

I have attached the two preset files that were from my attempts. I am not trying to make any modifications other than slipstream updates.

untill nuhi and abbodi86 find a workaround solution
nuhi can u provide a list for updates that can only be integrated on win7 host. or update ntlite gui for this.

thank you very much for finding out

I did a lot of testing on integrating all updates in Win7. You can find a (german) topic here: https://www.win-unattended.de/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=97

As i realised that it isn`t possible with only NTlite to integrate ALL updates, i do install Win7 SP1 in a VM and let do WU the whole process of installing all updates. After several restarts i finally get the green sign on WU that i`m up-to-date. I sysprep the installation, mount the VHD and create a WIM. This "install.wim" is my starting point to all modifications afterwards.
With NTlite on this WIM i`m able to reduce the size by cleaning all up all update backups, more than 4 GB are deleted. Also deleting some features and drivers i can get down the install-size to about 10 GB - that`s fine for me.

But there are some issues (and that`s the point in this thread):
If i cleanup the update-backups before integrating the ESU-updates i run into error!
If i detelete components (i haven`t figured out exactly) before integrating ESU-Updates i run into error!

Only if i leave the WIM "full" wih all update-backups and components i can integrate kb4540688 sucsessfully (tested in VM).
EDIT: Working on Win10 as host. Tests with Win7 as host are similar, no difference.

I've never used sysprep before. I've heard Clanger talk about "capturing images." I think this next level is over my head. And, except for corner cases like the one above, I don't understand why I would want to capture an image. (As opposed to simply using NTLite.)

But for completeness, I thought I would mention a similar tool from Terabyte Unlimited (makers of Image for Windows), their OS Deployment Tool.

I watched their tutorial video and it appears to do what sysprep does - although I presume that it does some things that sysprep doesn't do? (Else how could they market it.) I own a flavor of TB OSDT - I think it came with the full package of Image for Windows. But I've never used it.

like all things pmikep it is easy when you know how.
i will install an untouched iso, add any IE and .nets etc, everything is fully baked in, no install pendings etc, capture then wash through with ntlite. had good results :) if you want to build an EOL image or one that will doyou for a year or so its a good option

I think I understand, although couldn't one do all this via NTLite?

Or is the advantage to create a prebaked image to save time later? (As opposed to having to reinstall .nets and stuff post 'Liting every time.)

Since I don't install IE or NET's, maybe it's never occurred to me try this to save time. (But remember, I was burning Lite'd iso's to CDROM's for a while at first, until it occurred to me that I could get the job done a LOT faster putting the wim on a flash drive with Rufus.)

for me its a prebaked image, ideal for 7 now its eol. nets ie and c++'s, everything is there once you install it and yoo ready to rock

nuhi, it's blocked for offline integration, even for WinPE, regardless of what Host OS is
and it does not matter if current Win7 host has active ESU license

it is intentionally and strictly not allowed Offline (as Dism.log shows), and it damage the mounted image (i.e. no longer serviceable)

i believe they made this restriction because they cannot verify ESU license offline

if i apply this to wim before editing on ntlite https://forums.mydigitallife.net/th...-extended-security-updates-eligibility.80606/

can i use ntlite without errors? because there is a offline wim method in your project, did i understand completely wrong?

Thanks abbodi86.

Windows 7 update list changed to include back January 14th updates as the last ones, as MS officially stated.|
Those are checked by default, the ESU ones are unchecked.
Install the latter on the live machine with ESU directly on C:\Windows.
You can use Source - Tools - Install updates wizard - Add - Latest Online Updates and select the missing ones - Apply.

Let me know guys if there is anything else unclear.

Hey Trent, I had these same issues a couple of years back. I think I solved it by cleaning the windows update temporary cache folder. If I remember correctly the steps are like mentioned. First, you click Start and start typing on for "services.msc" then in your search results "services.msc" should show up. A new window will open containing all Windows services on your system. then you will have to Search for "Windows Update" later right-click the "Windows Update" and then click Stop. I did this while I worked at a development company and many of our systems had the same issue. After this is done you will now have to clean the Windows Update temporary cache folder. for that hold your windows-key pressed and hit "R" key simultaneous. A small new windows will appear. there you will have to type %windir%\SoftwareDistribution\DataStore in this new window and click OK. this will open Windows Explorer in the correct location. Delete all contents of this folder. (Hint: Use Ctrl + A to select all files and folders). This had worked for me while I was trying to run a test for Enterprise Application Development Services, therefore I hope it works for you as well. Cheers!!
