Windows 7 - Updates Download List 2018-02

Yes I updated NTLite yesterday. I have it installed as Portable, since I was annoyed that regular install needs license update every time I update the program.

This happens lately?
I think that bug has been fixed by nuhi months ago (reported by me), presets and license were removed on uninstall.

I use portable install to keep a kind of history releases and compare the latest to previous if there is any issue.

Yes. This license thing still happened 2 versions back ( But General version was 1.6 final already ).
For now I'm sticking with Portable.

Good job Kasual, just one question, I don't want to use IE, may I remove this? what about the updates? are some of them need IE installed?
thanks

fsalazar Head over to this topic. See posts no 25 and 26 too. The main IE HTML engine is needed by a lot of stuff but you can remove the IE GUI.
The best way is is to test it out and see when your other software breaks when IE is removed, in part or in full breaks.

Thanks Clanger, I have read the post you mention and also saw the topic about what not remove but I still have some questions:
1. I would like to have everything for Internet Explorer except the GUI, what do I have to keep and what to remove?
2. I will add the IE11 updates from the Kasual update list, is it gonna enable IE11 (I don't want to have the GUI)
3. In the topic about "what not remove" says
Internet Explorer engine.- Disables "Open file location". (can't find this: "engine")
Internet Explorer.- Needed for Dragon Naturally Speaking (It's also needed for NetLimiter 3 - suffering with this :)
Thanks in advance for your help.

hello
I tried to integrate via NTLite | v1.7.2.6650
win7x64 ultimate yesterday, and download all files what ntlite recommended,
after I compiled new win7x64 iso
decided to install clean win7, and ckecked update to see what ntlite integraed and what win7 stiil ask to update....

win7 asked me to install "ie11-windows6.1-kb4483187-x64_f57683541da12b2646ee182a8a84b7a03b9ed076.msu" after update ckecking
then I double ckecked what ntlide recommended me "ie11-windows6.1-kb4483187-x64_f57683541da12b2646ee182a8a84b7a03b9ed076.msu" wasn't in the list what ntlite recommendededs
regards

So, I've been trying to do my version of a (manual) Win7 Host Refresh on two Win7 boxes that have been updated over the years via NTLite. (That is, I run a patched Win7 setup.exe from inside a running Win7 machine, and chose "upgrade - keep my files and applications." (Or words to that effect.))

For the past 6 months, my Refresh of Win7 has failed. (At the very end of the upgrade. Like 97%.)

I assumed it was something that I removed using NTLite - or some arcane software that caused the failure. (Hard to catch a log because Windows wants to immediately revert back to the old Windows.)

But then I had a brainstorm (a brainwave in Clanger's world) - I tried Refreshing running, updated versions of Win7 back to an unpatched, vanilla Win7 SP1 iso.

That worked. (At least it worked on one machine. I haven't tried the other yet.)

So now my theory is that it is some new Service Stack update in a running, patched Win7 that is interfering with another, obsolete SS in the running Win7. (I thought of this the other day while reading Ask Woody. He was explaining how people were finding that you had to install a new SS after a bunch of regular patches for everything to work.)

I won't know until I try a manual Refresh on my other Win7 box.

But I thought I would mention this in case someone is having the same problem and wants to refresh their Win7 now that Win7 has reached EOL. (Kind of like a final clean slate install of Win7.)

If possible, you can check the latest logs in Windows\Panther folder path.

In the last months Ms has been testing their Servicing Stacks (SS) for the Post EOL Updates, can't remember exactly how I compared but I think I had a source updated until 2019-07 and the latest I had was 2019-11, the latest SS had an extra file related to Post-EOL updates: ExtendedSecurityUpdatesAI.dll - CMI Register Extended Security Updates AI plugin.

AI meaning would be Artificial Intelligence ?

Now that EOS updates have stopped, I decided to see what WU required on a clean sheet of Ultimate SP1 plus the core basics:
  • SSU stack (SHA-2, SHA-1, 3552, 0628, 6952)
  • SP2 (5574)
  • Platform (0838)
  • base IE11 (1134)
  • .NET 4.8 + Jan 2020 (2941)
WU ends up matching almost everything on the live update list (excluding ESU versions). What is different:
  • Updates Analyze wants a newer (ESU) SSU, ignore as 6952 is last for EOS
  • Monthly rollup is Jan 2020 preview (9601), includes the black wallpaper fix
  • IE11 needs both Nov 2016 (5319) and Jan 2020 (4251)
  • Graphics component (6019) & WUagent don't need to be checked, both are now part of other rollups
  • For RDP 8, pre-integrate 4819, 2687 and 0477 separately into a clean SP1 before applying the normal build (SSU, SP2, Platform, etc). RDP 0388 & 5226 also live in pass 2. Skip this if you're not interested in RDP.
  • For ESU prep, add 4538483
There will be no more WU updates, except for MRT tool and undesired CEIP/telemetry patches.

For optional software, I add Visual C++ libraries (2010, 2013, 2015-2019), WMF 5.1 and MSE. NDP48 is installed here, instead of using the KB equivalent for visibility.

Use the Pre-RDP preset first if adding RDP 8. There are no settings changes or feature/component removals to worry about. This should work as a clean base for EOS builds. Thanks to abbodi86's post on fixing RDP 8 (this drove me crazy for a month).

garlin i did the same, net 4.8 ie11 and every update tofully satisfy WU using wumt and wsusscn2.cab. i dont need all the c++ packs but i might just shove abbodis pack in for good measure.

Decided on pre-installing all the VC++ run-times, to prevent the random versions that get bundled by software installers. They tend to be really crufty, especially with older apps. My goal was to use freely available MS parts.

they are usually old and out of date too.

nero 9 uses an old c++, 2005 i think, if you install the latest versions would those installers install the older versions?
i ran neros installer, copied the extracted contents(like an install cd would be), if i remove the c++ it comes with the setup should run without a problem. might be worth trying that on your stuff that has c++'s
