I am new to windows 8.1 and using an iso that includes November 2014 update roll up.
I need to install .net3.5. Enabling it in Features on a running system it downloads the file, where is it downloaded to, Software Distribution, and what type of file is it, an executable, cab file or other?
I need to update the image, do i need a Servicing Stack and the latest CU only or do i need to add all the updates in the updates downloader tool.
What would be the install order on a running system, install .net 3.5 then the SS and CU as per usual?
==================================================================

I am using this post as a temporary location for 8.1 related uploads. Before running any file check them through as they may disable things you need to use, i run them as they are but users can cherry pick bits that suit them.

so, a question relevant to windows 8.1:

M$ ITs* seem to have pulled .NetFramework 4.8 file links from the site, and NTLite can't find the relevant updates. Does anyone knows a mirror for the cabs I can integrate via NTLite?

*(only missing an H in there, guys, I'd strive not to be worrthy of that...)

There might have been a security flaw with .NET 4.8 then. Any scuttlebutt? And if so, should I uninstall the KB? (I have a .NET Framework clean up tool.)

Thanks bud :) I got the 8.1 pack 1c already, ive grabbed the others. My reggies would be marked W7 in the filenames, if you find any upload them please :)

Question: Is it possible to automate the proccess of disabling driver signature enforcement >> Installing unsigned driver >> re-enabling driver signature enforcement?

I need Modded Intel Graphics Driver for a KAbylake Notebook, that's why.

I dont know if you can automate driver installation from extracted driver files. You need to enter 2 commands to dosable driver signing, i will dig them out and post in a while. If you reenable signing windows may complain and disable that driver because its not signed, im not a driver expert.

Thanks!

And from what I've gathered on the net, it is possible to re-enable Driver Signing afterwards, it just needs to be disabled during the driver install phase.

From what I've heard, Kabylake iGPU is just a Skylake iGPU with different clocks.

I think this resets signing, i havnt checked but reversing the values seems logical. Restting signing may knock out you gpu driver, i dont know, you will have to test it.

Code:
bcdedit.exe -set loadoptions ENABLE_INTEGRITY_CHECKS
bcdedit.exe -set TESTSIGNING OFF

To anyone needing Kaby Lake Drivers for their Windows 8.1 devices, DRP.SU website has a stable, but old version, 21.20.16.4505

It does not requires disabling the checks, and it works.

Now I found something that doesn't: Intel Dynamic Thermal Framework, the thing keeping the fans from spinning at MAX noise all the time, requires UAC for reasons I cannot fathom.

What do I need to keep to be able to get the annoying popup when I need to run stuff as administrator? Applocker?

As and answer for my own question, in case anyone has the same problem, applocker was to blame. Especifically 'SPPSVC' or 'Software Protection'.

Funnily enough, keeping that and MSStore for Touchpad and Bluetooth compatibility, but disabling other credential related stuff makes UAC behave in "Denial Mode" as in deny every request without prompting except when executed via right click "Run as Admin". There's not even a nagging prompt!

Also, happy to add that NetFramework 4.8 is back on and working, as far as I can tell.

Thanks. I've already stumbled on that and made my own frankedriver, but after finding 4505, gave up on that.

4505 has been stable and well behaved on the two notebooks that are using it, and gave me no problems. Preformance is good enough for anything short of gaming, which seriously, is NOT what'd would want intel iGPUs for.

as long as an igpu can play dvds and 1080 vieo im happy and dont care if its an older driver. same with windows 7, ive got an older set of updates from 2016 that were stable and are stable on coffee lake. ms wont be slipping me a crafty hidden kill switch.
