==============================================

I am new to windows 8.1 and using an iso that includes November 2014 update roll up.
I need to install .net3.5. Enabling it in Features on a running system it downloads the file, where is it downloaded to, Software Distribution, and what type of file is it, an executable, cab file or other?
I need to update the image, do i need a Servicing Stack and the latest CU only or do i need to add all the updates in the updates downloader tool.
What would be the install order on a running system, install .net 3.5 then the SS and CU as per usual?
==================================================================

I am using this post as a temporary location for 8.1 related uploads. Before running any file check them through as they may disable things you need to use, i run them as they are but users can cherry pick bits that suit them.

Cool! I don't plan to use Secure Boot (if I have a choice - I think it's a BIOS setting?).

(For others reading along, click Clanger's link above. Then on that new page, click on the link about the KB being buggy and you'll see reports from others about this KB giving problems.)

Secure Boot means make sure you zip em up :D. I posted it aza bug but when i saw the topic and found it wozza bogey i asked nuhi to remove it.

I put everything in except that and the telemetry updates and it worked like a charm. Will test install it later mebbe.

If you need to ask what something is then you have probably never used it. :)
It was a bug hunt build so i will redo it properly, install then capture it. Then i can work on my preset and i will finalise the tweaks next week.

Got 8.1 installed, working chipset inf installer package, using 8.1s own native usb3/3.1 xhci driver.

Got 8.1 running on my 880K main system, it runs well out of the box. Its more bloated with the store and apps than ltsb. Done some removals and it hasnt broken yet, its like windows 7 in that is tolerant with removals. Telemetry disabling is easier. No cortana. Its what windows 10 should be.
Stuff ltsb, try installing 8.1 first. :)

Am surprised that you didn't remove Store pre-install.

Hope you'll write a Guide about removing Telemetry.

Are you finding Win8.1 runs any faster? Like, does Blender render faster on it? Unless you think it's more secure than Win7 (I don't see how that can be, given the Store in Win8.1), speed is the primary reason that I would try it.

Ive just a vanilla install on the go to tinker around with things. I dont know if its a faster os but it runs smoothly without any tweaks at all. Its goinbg to be very easy to tame and tweak. Ive got a great wallpaper and colours to match, much better than w7 basic.

I dont do video rendering but i do do audio in various compressed and non compressed formats and it should cope very well withthat.

My desktop :)
Wallpaper is called Golden Sands by ullage22 on flickr. Its 2000x1081 and fits great on a 1920x1080 screen. It works well with windows 7 aero theme but aero keeps reverting to w7 basic and it just doesnt go well with that bloody awful basic fisher price blue.
No 3rd party themes needed and no patching files.

Bottom left hand corner, the white windows logo. The user is still active on flickr, i just checked. I can upload the theme file here without the wallpaper and you can get that from him. :) Im going to set the theme to thin borders like w10 has.

Here is the theme file, place it in C:\Windows\Resources\Themes, it will show in Personalization\Desktop Background.
