Windows Update removal breaks Sync Host service

Hi, I'm actually working on a optimization iteration using Windows 10 1709. I managed to remove all bloats and privacy issues, making it clean and fully stable and compatible, even the Windows Store works perfectly. Removing Windows Update using NTLite when I do the first deployment of the image, breaks almost everything, but if I remove it later in a second deployment (witch it also has the WinSxS folder completely cleaned using another software), it removes it just fine, keeping the Store working with no errors downloading apps.

The only issue it leaves, it is that, when I install the final image on a VM or a real PC, the only broke thing is the Sync Host service, witch is quite fundamental for some UWP, like the Windows' Mail & Calendar. The Event Viewer reports several errors claiming; "The specified module could not be found." As I said, it only happens when I remove Windows Update in a last deployment using the last version of NTLite. Before that, it works just fine.

There's any explanation or possible solving for this issue? Thanks!

Hi,

can you please attach the preset demonstrating Sync Host not starting?

As for WU removal breaking Mail app, cannot repro that, maybe I need that preset as the basis. Or if some extra

If 3rd party WinSxS cleanup is preventing breakage, maybe it removes needed files for proper removal. Is WU really fully removed after that sequence?

Thanks.

Windows Update never works even after the first deployment removal using NTLite, but I still keeping it due it is needed to Windows Store to download apps. I noticed in the first removal, Windows Update stated removed about 15,06 mb of files, but when I do it in the second removal, it just removed about 0,04 mb and 8 files exactly.

I think one of those 8 files there's some .dll thay maybe is needed for the Sync Host service to start. Because I didn't find another breaking thing.

As for the preset, the only thing I did in that final preset, is check Windows Update, nothing else. The process I do is the next one.

Integrate Update to Original ISO > Removing things with NTLite > Removing Drivers and WinSxS (3rd Party) > Remove just Windows Update (NTLite)

That's it. Thanks for the reply!

*****EDIT*****
After diggin' out and comparing images, I found that the 8 specific files are the next ones;

Code:

I tried re-reading the part about the preset, but cannot understand it, it sounds like I should be having that preset and check (not remove) only WU from it or?

Then install, and WU should not work even if kept, but it's kept for Store download?
Did you test that without that 3rd party cleanup? Because WU is very fragile when it comes to WinSxS.

If you still have the issues when using only NTLite, I'm here and waiting :)
Thanks.
