winload.exe MIA?

Excuse me Please:

May I ask for some assistance?

I do NOT know where or how "winload.exe" is getting removed!
Yet on the initial boot from the newly created image, I receive the following error:

Windows failed to Start.
File: \windows\system32\boot\winload.exe
Status: 0xc0000001
Info: ... could not be loaded ... missing or corrupt.

I purposefully read EACH of the entries prior to their removal.
None list this executable.
Might I ask which feature/component this executable resides under?

Thank you kindly for any assistance in this.

You think v4 from dvd is fast? Try 1.16gb(installed) w7 from usb2 key drive then  Glad you like the preset, its primarily aimed at beginners like you. :D There may be a v5 by the end of the week.

If I may rely upon the available expertise to ask a specific question regarding further image customization:

Which section of NTLite would allow one to specify a permanent move the default \Users\ folder from C:\ to {anyotherletter}:\ ?
Better for backup & recovery if one's personal files are stored OFF of the boot drive/partition.

{guess this would also require the establishment of at least the {anyotherletter} partition during NTLite or install so \Users\ would have somewhere to land}

I am noting there is much complication & warning on the Internet about moving-after-install the \Users\ folder, and how M$ suggests the move be done prior to install by modifying the image or with sysprep or something.

Thank you again for the assistance.

well, if the move can happen PRIOR to install, I have read this is a preferred method.
There are certainly many convoluted ways of accomplishing the move after the fact of install--with high potential for problems.
I would rather avoid said problems.

Varpanel is an easy to use tool to move some folders. I dont usually change default folder locations. I would just make a backup copy on another drive.

Since I often rebuild PCs for others, I was hoping for a more automated/automatic means of moving said important folders off of the boot drive/partition. I never agreed with MicroFlaccid's policy of "All-Eggs-In-One-Basket."
One GPO or reg change would save time during initial setup as opposed to moving numbers of folders' locations for numerous users on the same PC ;)

Excuse me Please:

I was thinking about rebuilding the win7 install on a Dell 420 laptop, and since it only has option of a 40GB zif drive, a tiny OS install would be most useful.
Where might I find the v5 mentioned? I can not, in clicking through menus, find v4 again,...

I understand.
Then where might I find the 1.16gb(installed) you mentioned that I may further whittle the BLOAT MicroFlaccid put into Win7....?

Alright.
I have experienced on a recently installed PC what you meant Clanger, that the wireless substructure was/is removed.
Is there an easy way to restore said wireless ability after system install?
or is the fundamental change needed in the Preset in NTLite environment?

Start from scratch. 40gb should be enough if pagefile hibernation sleep and system restore are all disabled/removed. IS that 40gb before or after formatting? after and you may be running very tight.

I can understand the wisdom of starting from scratch, it is my experience, however, that I seem to screw something(s) up and multiple features/functions do not work on the installed system.
So I do not trust myself to correctly configure NTLite to achieve the same results as you have provided in v4 Preset.

My presets dont have tweaks because tweaks are a personal thing. Using v4 you should see around 6gb installed with pagefile hibernation sleep and system restore off/disabled.
