As I said I enjoy it.
My plan is creating an AIO OS for my whole family and share it.
Normal users thinks: My PC/laptop comes with Windows 10, so It must be ONLY compatible with Windows 10 or higher.
I love Win 7, but the lack of offical support and no USB 3.0/other hardware drivers is a big problem for me sadly. I mean there are workarounds and maybe I could use Win 7 for everyday purpose but I can't give a pendrive with a tweaked Win 7 to my family couse what if my cousin wants a never game that is only run on Windows 8 or higher. Or buy a new printer or anything without Win 7 support. I don't want to be a helpdesk 0/24.
I think 8.1 can be a good family OS for at least 5 years. Or Im wrong?
as long as 7 and 8.1 work the only consideration is software. newer software will officially be w10 and build X only. ive got xp era software that runs fine even on ltsc without any compatibily options set. 8.1 dies its official death jan 2023 if im not mistaken. keep up to date with browser and AV software and that will take you to 2025 at least.
It's quite exciting to know that on Windows 8.1 the performance is so much better! Yes Windows 8.1 has the fastest boot of all Windows.
Embedded Industry does not have most Metro apps. If I'm not mistaken just Store and one or 2 other apps.
Charms bar is present but you can disable it with StartisBack or with a reg tweak:

Is there any game that runs on 8.1 but not 7? From what I've seen so far the games are compatible with 7 and 8.1 and 10 or only with 10.

i dont think there is . most become backwards compatable but i dont think there are any strict 8.1 games
Yeah I didn't belive the difference too.
The theme works if you disable theme section in winlogon.exe so It will look exactly like in the screenshots. Or you can use it on Windows 8 aero or aerolite theme you just need to change the .theme downloaded file.
Put HighContrast=1 under [Theme Style].

If you use OpenShell's Classic theme, the themes will apply on start menu too.
Only problem I have is the newer version of Edge don't let me disable to follow Windows theme, so the webpages looks weird.
i like the metro theme, set the colours right, use prairie wind bitmap and i wont need any other themes. cant find a decent theme for 7
if i remember correctly i couldnt disable all charms/corners. grrrrrr. cant abide all that aero shake snap peek crap, bloody intrusive.
EI Pro has store and some apps but not the whole lot you get in regular pro.
if startisback kills the corners crap then it must do it somehow, a reg edit, a constant running exe or dll. im loath to have startisback just to disable charms/corners.

If I remember right, Startisback didn't run anything in taskmgr, maybe it's an injected dll or something. But I disabled Charms Bar, buuuut. If I know right, it's still running but invicible couse if you alt-tab with classic theme running you see ghost task running in the background. One of them is "something something search" and if you alt tab to that process Charms Bar opening (If the registry tweak not applyied). If applyed nothing happens but still running. Oh sorry. I can't find it anywhere else. But as I said It's not working for me.
WinClassic is a forum about making Windows 7+ OS Classic themed. But 1 It's hard. 2 It's buggy. 3 Windows against it. Every single update broke something about Classic theme.
I think StartisBack changes the Windows Shell or something like that. I couldn't figure out how it disables hot corners. It sure isn't using the registry for that.
This is bad
NTLite has a component called "Modern App support" which was formerly called Metro Services or something like that. Maybe removing that charms bar and all the rest of Metro will go away. But PC settings app won't work NTLite removes it as it doesn't work. Search in Start Screen will also not work even in Control Panel. It only works in file explorer as I recall.The first link does exactly what the reg tweaks I posted do.
