Removed 800 MB of WinSxS Folders, but WIM grew by 60 MB

While exploring the mount directory I manually removed about 800Mb from the WinSxS folder. After unloading the directory and saving changes, the Wim size *grew* by about 60 MB, even though the install sizes decreased as expected. I presume this is because of compression techniques.

Are there any better compression techniques that can be used outside of NTLite?

WIM architecture works like that, it needs to be recompressed (Exported) to truly get rid of deleted files.
Right-click the (unloaded) image, e.g. install.wim row, on the Source page and choose Convert - Recompress.

And next time you can use the Apply page to save changes, it will also automatically recompress after saving, it can create ISO also, change to even higher compression (ESD), etc.

Got it. Thanks!
