Stop the Navigation Pane from expanding folders in Win 7

There is an option to allow that to happen which I checked by (huge) mistake when I compiled W7 Pro.
In the finished product, I can't find a way to undo it in the installed O/S after numerous searches. All I find is how to enable it in W10. This is really annoying when I go to choose another HDD or partition (3 drives, 7 partitions total).

Excellent timing, we must be on the same path as I just got to what I believe is the root of the problem.
Under Settings/ Explorer/ Navigation Pane/ Automatically expand to current folder & possibly 'Show all folders'.

(Note; on the version w/ the problem , both of those were checked 'Enabled'.)

That doesn't fix anything, it's NOT checked!
That's the right setting to stop the behaviour that that you described, unless if I'm misinterpreting what you described.

Have you tried checking it, applying and unchecking? Maybe there's a graphical glitch where it shows that it's off, but the setting is actually on? I know that the "Always show icons, never thumbnails" option disappeared for me after modifying the ISO with NTLite. I had to modify a registry to get it back.

I corrected my above post, those 2 settings were checked 'Enable' when it was complied. And yes, that other quirk occurred about the 1st entry under Folder options about showing icons was not there.

Ok, what was the fix for that since you mentioned that?

But most important; what is the registry fix for my problem no thanks to M$ 's another bad idea??

For the icons option, I run this command:
REG ADD HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer /v DisableThumbnails /t REG_DWORD /d 0

I don't know about the one for expanding folders automatically. You can do your own research on it if you want. I never had a problem with the setting working properly. In your first reply, you said that it was already unchecked, which means you had the option there at least. You could have tried checking it and unchecking it again just to make sure the settings are set correctly.

Post 5 was the problem. It also removed that 1st entry under the View tab about thumbnails. That entry in NT Lite should be removed since it causes 2 problems.
