I didn't try it, if u ask me they will be good over time, nuhi had to start from somewhere, but i don't think they are harmless right now. unexpected things might happen in different scenarios since no one including nuhi can test every combination, and you will need to report them if u want them get fixed.

But the risk of editing ISO is the same, even when u make your own preset like others and me. there will be always same risk. also its great place to start.

there are too many damn variables for 1 person to know how things will react in every situation.
the tool covers windows 7, 8, 8.1 and how many w10 builds have there been?
Presets and Templates are merely suggestions. if removing X breaks Y report it or if like some here you are a power tester report your final findings.

Thanks, I Understand, viability is not guaranteed by applying a Nuhi template
ofc think this way there is a x-game made by a company.... and that game uses for example windows photos app for some in game pic displaying.... game company trusts that that photos app will be there since it is part of official windows.

and guess what. you removed it. so your game won't function properly. how can nuhi or anyone know that? that game maybe released 1 hour ago. or will be released tomorrow?

its the same reason we have so much trouble when removing internetexplorer or even freaking windows media player. lots of companies made softwares depending on them. even microsoft couldn't get rid of them. they are even still inside windows 11...

Nuhi explained to me the templates are really experiments for now. They're based this forum's feedback on what is generally safe to remove without breaking features, or mandatory pre-requisites to run specific apps. Think of them as for beginners.

You can always do more tweaking. But not everyone has the background to debug broken templates.

Well, let's not get too harsh on the experimental nature of it.
I'm using the Lite template on my main machine, plus extras like Languages.
So it is thoroughly tested. Plus the scoring on each component is not a guess, but years of experience.

The only issue since release that I saw so far was removing the Scanner support by accident via the Lite template, added the Compatibility option in the next version to lock that so I can keep on using it without correcting after.
And people stated that XBox App is needed for the new Forza game, so it was demoted from Privacy to Lite.

Basically it is much easier to start with these templates.
Make sure to never remove red ones, and you're already 95% there.

chiefkief they are not in xml format but part of the tool itself. you can load them and then go back to the Source page and save them as an xml preset as per normal which you can then edit and combine with any existing presets you may have.

Network discovery is removed, so you can't mount file shares in VM. "No bueno".
There is a File Sharing compatibility, enable it to protect file sharing, that's the workflow - protect what's needed, then use templates or any kind of component unchecking.
Eventually compatibilities will popup when using templates.

Moving Edge Chromium to untagged, thanks for the feedback, good point.

But a lot of Privacy would be managed by Settings, not removed components. Telemetry (Asimov) is the system-level profiling, but WU, Store, crash reporting and gobs of apps return data.
