Please forgive me for asking what might be a very elementary question - but I don't understand and I really would like to know.

Why are only some, but not all updates marked with a hook checkmark/selected?

Please see attached picture.

Previews and .NET 4.8.1 are optional, that's how Microsoft presents them as well.

I recommend to use those, but, if MS has a bug that will be fixed on next patch Tuesday (first tuesday in a month), it's a small risk.
So only official/stable updates are pre-selected.
.NET 4.8.1 is stable, but for some reason it's considered optional.

You can click on the different updates and open Windows info side - choose latter version number.
You should be good to go ;)

Old stuff may require net 4.8. Newer stuff will be on nets 5 6 or 7 at least.
Personally i would add it "just in case".

Previews are in between second tuesday updates and get cached up here.

Tip - dont rely on the "use latest clr(.net) tweak, it doesnt always work. crypticus has posted on that issue before.

What link, i didnt post one. i know crypticus mentioned it but i dont know where.

Users can hide their profiles and limit who can message them but they cannot do it to moderators.

Then we cleared it up and good point and therefore unnecessary and refer to self-blocked profiles.

It helps cut down on pm requests for help.
usually if i @ someone its a ping for a comment/help,
"give me a ping vasily, one ping only please" :D
