DISM Error: 14107 on Windows 8.1 U3

I use NTLite to download Windows 8.1 U3 updates that are checked by default and integrate them. Then I just select clean update backup (Customize). Other than that, there is no other operation. I installed it in a virtual machine to test. An error occurred when I used “DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /StartComponentCleanup /ResetBase”.

Code:
C:\Windows\system32>dism /english /online /cleanup-image /startcomponentcleanup /resetbase

Deployment Image Servicing and Management tool
Version: 6.3.9600.19408

Image Version: 6.3.9600.19397

have you tried taking out the /English ?

C:\Windows\system32>dism /online /cleanup-image /startcomponentcleanup /resetbase ?

i think your install may be corrupted. some of the warnings and errors on are missing or corrupted.

I've tried several times and it's the same error. There is no error in win7, this error only occurs in win8 and win8.1.

i haven't said about windows 7..... i said you may have a corrupted windows install because some of the dll files that should be there are not.

try sfc /scannow to check the file system and see if it is corrupted.

are you talking about the running VM image you are getting this from or the actual running OS without the VM ?

Don't use Custom cleanup, if you want to run DISM /cleanup-image /startcomponentcleanup /resetbase.
If you're running W7, there is no /resetbase for DISM.

Custom cleanup sacrifices DISM compatibility for better removals. It's an "one way trip" for those who don't want to install future updates, or normally wipe and reload their system.

Your preset is not the right file, it's missing a list of installed updates.

To recreate the image, I used 8.1 U3 and NTLite's current Updates list. NTLite would not allow DISM - Compatible cleanup due to pending file operations. If we removed some KB's, this might permitted.

Since I didn't choose Custom cleanup, /resetbase works.

I first integrate updates, and save image. Then mount the image again to do "clean update backup". So there is no updates list in the preset file.
Because updates are pending, so "/resetbase" is a invalid option. So I choose NTLite Custom cleanup.
This is my update list. These updates that are checked by NTLite default. 121 updates in total.

Do you understand what is a pending operation? Some updates are staged, by design they have to wait for another update to install at boot before installing. DISM marks the image this way to prevent specific actions like cleanup.

By reloading the image and running Custom, you bypass the protections. NTLite probably should not run Custom with pending operations, unless it has really good logic to handle it.
