I tired to call out a scammer with proof(a lot of proof not going into details)and they ban me for it.

In a nutshell was trying to help someone out with NtLite to help clean out his system. User said he lives in one place, then next time another. He also wanted me to use my key to help him with NtLite. Also wanted to pay me with another person's PayPal account(told me I stole his money and scammed him)

The user bought the program after countless times telling him he cannot use "my key". Since I was banned from the site just kept an eye on the thread and he started bashing NtLite thinking I was a sales rep for the company and that the company must be going down since Nuhi(or whoever) declined his refund.

Just wanted to get it out there if it ever comes up, he made quite a stink about it

Well there is your rant of the day from me

ive seen good moderation and extremely bad moderation. 1 website that shall remain nameless dont ban you, they just lock your account so you can do diddly squat with it, so you create another account, they find out and they ban that because you cant have more than 1 account, thats nasty. then there are the cry bullies :mad::mad::mad:

Necrosaro, thanks for the heads up.
Since I cannot do anything about it, I'll leave the readers to decide for themselves.
We should not ban back blindly, only if someone is ultra annoying and does not respect the help.
It's better to have an open conversation.

How I see the occasional negative view of my work:

Since kids and those that do not see software as someones actual effort, don't have each version cracked, they activate and ask for a refund, so I have to be more resistant than I would be in an ideal world.
I went on hacking boards and read how they ridicule me while doing so, really surprising how some people can feel so entitled and without morals.

It also doesn't help that refunds actually cost me, as payment processing company does not refund the processing fee.
Also there is the free version to see what the tool is about, so that surprised act does not make any sense.

Then people on tweaking forums see NTLite as a too easy solution, that would beat the purpose of their hobby or feeling of total control.
They don't see the source to trust it completely, makes sense, it's one of the negatives of closed source.
So I'm not surprised nor offended, there will be legit people that want a refund, there will be script fans that see it as a threat or a risk of which the flaws need to be put on display.

I see it all as feedback, been like that since 2004 (nLite, vLite, NTLite).
As I just love helping people be more productive, I wish there was no money involved, but this level would be impossible as I would need to do something else as well.

Also the more popular the tool is, more of all kinds of people will come onboard.
So far the positives outweigh the negative, it would be naive to think it can be 100% positive, or that I won't make mistakes.
Heck people are slamming Windows ever since it came out, and with each update, which I also don't understand or had luck not to experience.

I think it's ridiculous when people moan about paying for a license, while they're sitting at a computer that's worth over $2,000 and a Steam library with dozens or even 100+ games in it... I would have gladly paid for other stuff too, like a CCleaner license, had they not sold out in the worst way possible and wrecked the tool with security/privacy issues galore. So, Nuhi when you get that big offer from someone to buy out NTLite, just make sure it's not being sold to someone that has bad intentions :p

If it makes you feel any better, I haven't come across anything negative about NTLite in my Google travels over the years. But I also tend to avoid the niche forums/sites, because they seem to focus more on things like pirating and hacky solutions anyway.

There's just a ton of different personalities out there, I mean for years we had to deal with idiots doing DDoS attacks to places like Battle.net just for "fun", and lemme tell you how much "fun" I was having being kicked offline because of it, while I'm just trying to unwind with a video game after a long day at work... And these are the exact same people that will go to forums and twitter and cry about paying for a license, or something else ridiculous. So you shouldn't put too much value into their opinions, there's a lot of hypocrisy and entitlement out there in this new culture thanks to social media--just a whole lot of keyboard warriors, who wouldn't have the balls to say or do these things in real life.

what's this about CCleaner having sold Out ? I'm using a pretty old version but I'm curious

Avast bought Piriform in 2017. Current version is passable in manual mode, but suffers from unnecessary add-on features to promote the subscription model.

Yeah the program went to sh*t around that time. I thought it was more of an issue of not cleaning up or telemetry I stopped being interested in the new versions since they didn't add features I wanted

Re: CCleaner

What Garland said, and they also had a lot of other issues too right after being sold, such as being infected with malware that spread to consumers, they added a lot of telemetry and ads into the product, and at one time it tried to force installation of Avast. It also started to diverge away from what the product was originally popular for, which was cleaning.

Now it's got all these features like driver updaters, health check, etcetera, all of which are things that you really shouldn't be using. It's basically turned into another Windows Update that tries to get you to install things you don't want or need, since you should be doing things like drivers manually. There's some massive threads on the topic on Reddit where people tore the company a new one.

I made a thread on Reddit about how to edit the cfg file to eliminate most of the telemetry, but then they patched it up and removed some of those options. Now the only way to remove the negative stuff is to use a fully portable version, like from portableapps.com -- the portable versions straight from Piriform are not only on "hold" right now, so they aren't updating them, but they don't have the same modifications in them to eliminate those other issues like the versions from portableapps does.

With all that being said... It's still the best cleaner in my opinion. I tried the ever popular BleachBit, but it's just too buggy. I had issues with it on both XP and W10, failing to clean things and/or handle explorer.exe properly. It has a lot of potential, but they need to focus on bug-fixing more before I try to switch over again.

Also, I highly recommend adding the winapp2.ini modification into ccleaner, it still works with the portable version. It adds hundreds of more locations to clean, and so far I've had zero issues with that setup. Right after a clean install of W10 you can clean up just over 400 MB...

get any damn version of ccleaner and extract it, move the exe file and run it from anywhere, set the settings ini. you dont need a "portableapps" version.
combine winapp2 and 3 but be careful.

You might be right, but at least at one time this didn't work. That's what I was saying above, I tried this and it was inferior to the portableapps version. My cfg/ini and registry keys were being ignored in the versions of ccleaner that came after Avast took over, even when I set the files to read-only. The only way I could eliminate the ads and other stuff was to use the portableapps one. This could have all changed now, since ccleaner is updated monthly and it's been many years since Avast took over, so with all the PR issues they may have decided to fix up those annoyances.

Here's my old post on Reddit (https://www.reddit.com/r/software/comments/ce322p/ccleaner_by_piriform/) I deleted my account because that place is disgustingly toxic in my experience (in the subreddits I visited anyway).
