Yeah, what I was saying though is right now ccleaner's portable is on hold (https://www.ccleaner.com/knowledge/ccleaner-v6-02-9938). It says, "We have paused releases of CCleaner Portable..." and it's been that way for several upates.

But, I think I'm not explaining myself properly because our wires seem to be crossed :p I wasn't focused on if they have a portable version, but rather that right after Avast took over, and shortly after my Reddit post with how to tweak things, they started modifying how the cfg/ini/registry works and made it more difficult for users to disable stuff. This may have been reversed over the years, but I just stuck with the portableapps version because it works without issue for me, and "If it ain't broke..."

Anywho, we both seem to agree a portable version is better, and that's all that really matters here for other readers of this thread to know--it helps eliminate some of the issues caused by Avast's takeover.

Re: CCleaner

What Garland said, and they also had a lot of other issues too right after being sold, such as being infected with malware that spread to consumers, they added a lot of telemetry and ads into the product, and at one time it tried to force installation of Avast. It also started to diverge away from what the product was originally popular for, which was cleaning.

Now it's got all these features like driver updaters, health check, etcetera, all of which are things that you really shouldn't be using. It's basically turned into another Windows Update that tries to get you to install things you don't want or need, since you should be doing things like drivers manually. There's some massive threads on the topic on Reddit where people tore the company a new one.

I made a thread on Reddit about how to edit the cfg file to eliminate most of the telemetry, but then they patched it up and removed some of those options. Now the only way to remove the negative stuff is to use a fully portable version, like from portableapps.com -- the portable versions straight from Piriform are not only on "hold" right now, so they aren't updating them, but they don't have the same modifications in them to eliminate those other issues like the versions from portableapps does.

With all that being said... It's still the best cleaner in my opinion. I tried the ever popular BleachBit, but it's just too buggy. I had issues with it on both XP and W10, failing to clean things and/or handle explorer.exe properly. It has a lot of potential, but they need to focus on bug-fixing more before I try to switch over again.

Also, I highly recommend adding the winapp2.ini modification into ccleaner, it still works with the portable version. It adds hundreds of more locations to clean, and so far I've had zero issues with that setup. Right after a clean install of W10 you can clean up just over 400 MB...

Already do all of that. and yes I fully agree.

I rarely get banned on anything since I am not a toxic person but I guess being honest gets you banned on some forums. So the lesson here kids is don't be Jon Snow honest and don't go al out little finger haha

that place had the worst moderation ever, i spoke my mind and got banned for it.
ironically the graveyard shift didnt always have a mod about about and we kept the peace.
1 place i keep an eye on has a cry bully, cries complains and gets people banned. very nasty piece of work person.
best you can do is say nothing, get what you need then sign out.

I think I asked Brink when I originally got banned (got banned on 11 and tried on 12) to plead my case and ended up still getting banned because they thought I was scamming another user. Provided evidence was never enough when I wanted to oust a user who was so fishy you could smell it.

Oh well the forum is dead to me now and lost its trust.

The same unfortunate rule applies from customer service: asshats win because they have more time & energy than the admins. I think we've done enough storytelling, and it's time to will lock this thread and return to NTLite.

Thanks everyone.
